Sirius_Alpha wrote:Kinda off-topic but is it possible we could have rings around stars, too? They would need to have some sort of Emissive True property as well as a much greater visibility distance. This might enable the implementation of circumstellar disks.

I mean, yeah we should. Not just rings but spheres of debris. Celestia Origin has models for the Asteroid Belt, the Kuiper Belt and the Oort cloud, but I do think this can be improved. And also, several known stars are confirmed to have debris disks, accretion disks, protoplanetary disks or any other type of disks, as long as it contains matter within it. Fomalhault and Vega for example, have disks.

Yeah I experimented around with this a little, putting a tiny invisible planet in a polar orbit in such a long period that it's "stuck" over the north/south pole of the star, so that the planet doesn't cast a shadow on the ring. They kinda look nice but if you're viewing them the "wrong" angle, they turn very dark.

Celestia does need a better way of rendering circumstellar disks.

Although I would like for this to be implemented, I'd imagine there would be serious technical issues.

Meanwhile, I have another suggestion:
Make it so we can name the default surface of an object.
Since we can name Altsurfaces to anything we want, such as "1996 (Hubble)", why can't we name the default surface?
Like if I use the Cassini Jupiter map for my default texture, when i go to altsurfaces, instead of seeing "Normal", I see "2000 (Cassini)".
Would this be possible?

Thanks,
fyr02.

Is there an plan to add a way of rendering proto-superclusters like Hyperion.
1024px-The_Hyperion_Proto-Supercluster.jpg

Since Celestia does show it, but doesn't render it.

Could you provide data files for them so we can use them for test purposes?

You made it invisible: Visible false. Then, your hyperion.png custom template should be put into a main models/ directories, not to extras. It worth to fix the latter issue.

Sorry onetwothree, that contained the wrong file. Here is the correct one.

I just downloaded the latest compile to use with Project Echoes, and I see two problems:

1. Norton Security identifies every single executable as malware
2. The name of every object is shown twice, like "Earth / Earth"

(Should I post this on GitHub instead?)

I would doubt that if I were you. Sometimes, antivirus secuity get all wonky for executables that actually don't have virus. Still, it's worth checking but I think it's just an "allergic" reaction, not a real assessment of a threat.

I can speak from experience because I downloaded Celestia 1.6.1 straight from the website, so it's legal and without virus. But Bytefence often closes it everytime I open it up, to the point that I have to whitelist it in Bytefence so that I can use and enjoy Celestia

Yes I know it’s not a virus, but it shouldn’t be detected as one. I was just noting it for the developers.

I think john71 noted it earlier a month ago, so you're not alone:

Oh yeah, I noticed this too but it wasn't a major enough inconvenience to bring it up yet. Would be nice if that gets looked into though.

Can we have a new build now that star orbits have been fixed?

Shouldn't that be a question in Celestia's Github? Also, they update from time to time in an interval of months, so just be patient

I don't think so, since new builds are posted here.
