Not a problem at all.

Markerz wrote:what i was actually asking is the possibility to distribute the binary on platforms like mac app store etc.

If there any volunteers to do this.

Added after 3 hours 11 minutes:
Actually now we have a volunteer helping us with OSX Qt5-based frontend, so s/he might be interesting in collaboration with you. And s/he is from China too, so you might even speak the same language without any need to use English :)

Completely unrelated to scripting or the current situation, but just something random that popped into my head.

Celestia Splash design contest!
Once AstroDB is integrated it might be a good idea to redesign the splash for Celestia.
We may hold a contest to see what the new splash will be.
It would probably held here or on the subreddit.
again, its just a showerthought

The only way I can see a competition for a new Celestia splash working on the subreddit is if more people join.

Still formally developer, but too tired to develop. I feel sad, but Celestia is going forward despite it.

Ohhhh, this one?

Added after 2 minutes 39 seconds:
Well, for one, you can make it more vibrant by featuring the entire solar system, and a streak of the Milky Way, while modernizing the font of the word "Celestia". The font should be the same as the stylized "C", which is featured on our latest logo, the one that resembles Saturn's rings. And lastly, perhaps you can add a constellation or 2. Those are just my ideas.

Especially since that splash is from 1.4.1, which was released in 2006.

Is there any plan to and the Y spectral type for Brown Dwarfs, since the lowest spectral type Celestia can currently go to is T9.

I ask since this is meant to a Y2 brown dwarf.

Not sure if anyone cares, but I thought it had been long enough since a binary post of a recent commit.

Here is commit 5595, vanilla, VS2015 static linked.
Still fighting the QT version, the moving of files and other changes are proving a challenge to adapt to.

Before anyone tells me to just use cmake, I cannot, it is incompatible with my system setup.
It requires a particular configuration which I cannot use.
Besides, the setup files produced by cmake cause it to be called during compile, which is crazy in my opinion.

I would like to download Celestia 1.7.0 separately from my currently existing version (Celestia 1.6.1-ED) without the download interfering with Celestia 1.6.1-ED.
Is there any way to do so?

I would build it with apropriate prefix. Otherwise it will depend on packaging system used. If in simple archive then just unpack wherever and adjust paths.

A separate, single Celestia 1.7 installation file would be nice! Is it possible to have a new 2 million stars data file in the installation from the new GAIA data set?

Since AstroDB development is not finished, no.

A new snapshot version for windows users:

@John71 please test 64bit celestia-qt-test.exe it has OpenGL init procedure changed slightly. I hope with the change you will have the same FPS as with native windows version.

ChangeLog:
1) eclipse time in qt version is shown properly
2) overlay image replacement has been fixed
3) qt version now saves its data to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Celestia instead of %APPDATA%\Celestia
4) "Back to the parent" context menu entry
5) built using luajit
6) filesystem handling implemented using std::experimental::filesystem library (better multi language support)
7) win32 version has updated view options dialog, now it allows to en-/disable rings of planets and toggle orbit fading
8) celestia will not abort if your extras directory doesn't exist
9) qt version shows a bit more info in "info panel"
10) in qt version keys F5 and F6 again change speed instead of copying from/pasting from console. More usual Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V are used now, so the menu entries have been moved from File to Navigation
11) a lot of other changes for other platforms from our new teammates Li Linfeng (known here as Markerz) and dlshcbmuipmam.

Thanx!

I'm downloading it right away!

Added after 39 minutes 16 seconds:
There are VERY serious graphic and texture issues in the new version.

In the QT version moon textures are missing or they are distorted, atmospheres and clouds are missing, and some moons has the wrong texture.

Some surface features disappeared.

The win version has the same problems.

There is no noticeable improvement considering the fps rate.

I will try to make a simple test (ssc) file to show the problems.

Screenshots? URLs? Moon names?

These are add-on moons. By the way this is the worst graphic and overall bug I have ever experienced in Celestia. In contrast the last win version worked almost perfectly.

I will recreate the bugs in a special add-on, as soon as I have the time.

Are you sure we don't need any more installation file to run this build?

Do they use virtual textures?

Just unpack the archive. Nothing else.
