So what is the way forward now? The released official build for linux does not work anymore on recent version of Ubuntu. I don't use windows, linux is my daily driver. Wine is not that smooth for heavy graphics rendering, it's sluggish.

Until is released the official version 1.7.0 and until we adapt the CO to it, Wine is the only reasonable solution.

There is real reviews about successful using Origin on Ubuntu with Wine. At least try. Moreover, the performance of virtual textures can be control by means of disabling highest levels.

Very cool! I think this will cause long loading times and lag on slower computers though.
If you see that I made a dumb or nonsensical post years ago, please forgive me in advance.

Quite the contrary, converting to VT increased performance very well.

Here's a spacecraft you should add in Celestia Origin. toutatis released his Pioneer Venus Orbiter addon today and it would be great if it could be added in.

Everytime I see this blocked antenna dish I want to get it into my hands and release... Grr
Great work!
Still formally developer, but too tired to develop. I feel sad, but Celestia is going forward despite it.
Btw, the universe is ruled by electricity.

Made a brand new texture map of Jupiter, based off data from Hubble in 2019:

Been into Astronomy since the age of 3 or 4. Started making planetary textures back in late 2016. 3D animator who makes high quality animations in Cinema 4D. Likes to sometimes, deliberately torment myself with the stupid green screaming apatosaurus that is Arlo.
