Goofy,

Online translators are not always up to the mark and distort the meaning of words.

Of course, I appreciated your message on the nuances of color.

What I wanted to explain is that you can not do a version for every nuance. But if you want a particular hue, post a jpeg file of the hue you want and I will make the adaptation in the cmod file.

All remarks are welcome when they are constructive.

the cmodview program can be downloaded from https://celestia.space/
tab Add-Ons / Utilities / Others.
to change the colors we are talking about, it's pretty simple.
for textures it's more complex.
the program does not change the shape of the object.

Please continue to post messages, it always concerns us.

 :hi:

OK Gironde, I understand, it was a misunderstanding due to the fact that English is not our Native language, so all is OK.
Bye and nice 3Ds!

Goofy and others

cmodview does not allow to modify the structure of a 3D model but only to modify the rendering of the colors.

In the attached image, I tried to explain its operation, although I did not assimilate everything on the textures.
Unlike the 3dstocmod program, cmodview accepts long names for texture files.

The cmodview program was made only for Celestia, so it uses its file structure. The 3D model must be in a 'models' folder and the textures in a 'textures / medres' folder.

The 3dstocmod program turns a .3ds file into a .cmod file. But as he misinterprets some properties of the 3ds, it is necessary to resume manually. At first I recover a cmod ascii to correct imperfections.

3dstocmod limits the size of the texture file name to 8 characters so you have to retype them manually. Properties like 'opacity' take erroneous values which I correct by putting them back to 1. The .cmod ascii file is editable in any good text editor. (as Notepad ++).

Once the cmod file is passed through cmodview, it is always written in binary cmod.

A cmod file can not be converted back to 3ds (to my knowledge). It's a dead end. So I advise you to keep the original 3ds file.
A 3ds file can always be used in a 3D program (Blender, Meshlab, ...) to modify the structure of 3D vectors.

Cmod is a format unique to Celestia.

False !
You have several softwares which realize the updates like unwrap3d, anim8or, blender, ...

There is only one program I know of that can convert from a CMOD file to other model files: a program called 3D Object Converter.

The only problem is that it costs 50 USD for the registered version, and the program is made absolutely unusable unless it is registered, because if it is an unregistered version, it will delete every 5th polygon from the mesh upon export to a new format.

jujuapapa, there is no plugin for Blender or Anim8or that allows you to directly open CMOD files. As for this Unwrap3D that you speak of, I don't know for sure, but I'm doubtful.

However, there are plugins for Blender and Anim8or that allow you to export models of other formats to CMOD format, but these don't allow you to directly open CMOD files.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums. Toutatis, nice work with the Parker Solar Probe! However, I will request for addons of certain spacecraft since I have Blender installed, but my antivirus blocks cmodview.

Hi Gironde.
Probably you have already seen, but here

http://parkersolarprobe.jhuapl.edu/index.php#spacecraft

are PSP Anti-Ram Facing View and Ram Facing View that look very detailed and realistic.
And here

http://parkersolarprobe.jhuapl.edu/Multimedia/Images.php#photos

you can find both artist's renderings and images of the real thing.
Hope this hrelps to solve your doubts.
Bye

Hello. I want to request for the spacecraft RHESSI. It would be fine if gironde or toutatis created an addon for this obscure spacecraft. I found the 3D model from the NASA 3D Resource here: https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/HESSI-RHESSI

A complete list of orbital parameters from Wikipedia is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuven_Ramaty_High_Energy_Solar_Spectroscopic_Imager

Regards, SpaceFanatic64.

jujuapapa, you learn to read. In my post, I said that the cmod files were deadlocked once created and that the original 3ds files should be kept. There is no import plugin for cmod files in anim8or but only an export plugin.
