i love the idea of splitting view vertically and horizontally, but how about, computing each view port in a diferent thread?, so that while i'm waiting for a view port, to load a large texture, i can still work in the other view ports

It's a good idea, and we'll get to it eventually . . . A separate thread (or several) loading textures would be beneficial in the single-view situation too.
