Binary Stars
i have a question, is it posible to make binary stars? i mean, a star moving in a circle orbit around another one, or something like that?
i want to make a solar system around a binary system. i know how to make stars. i made two stars, one close to the other. but they dont move, and the planet is in a circle orbit around only one of them. ah and if its posible, i would like if the two stars iluminate the planet, not only one.
and an other thing: is it posible to put in a planet two different rings? i try puting a planet with rings, and an other planet(smaller) with the same rings inside the first one, but with different inclination. but i only see the first ones rings, and the second one i see it behind the first one.
is it possible??
thaks!
pd: how can i put a pic on here if i want to show you something?

much of what you ask isnt possible at this time...Binary stars can be made as emissive planets....
to post an image you must first upload it somewhere on the net and display using the Img tag...You will see a button for it in a post window...

I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!
Use the search option and look up binary stars or emissive objects theres tons of posts on the subject...It would be better than the time I would spend typing all the details here...
Also I will be uploading my addons to my site soon so look for them there...

Emissive
i look up for emissive and i found something, but i dont know how to use it, or where to put it. can you give me an example?
i did this:
"K-Pax" "hip 300001" # a star that i created
{
Texture "astar.jpg"
Mass 10000
Radius 100000
emissive true #how do i write this?
EllipticalOrbit {
Period 1.0
SemiMajorAxis 0.4
}
RotationPeriod 24
}
can you correct me if is not good?
sometimes i dont see any change, and sometimes is like the planet doesnt exist at all
help me please

ok selden. i will try to do something.
mi idea is to put two planeta orviting the empty.3ds. the planets will have a star texture(astar, mstar, etc) and they will have an atmposphere with the same color of the texture. i did it, but i have to correct the color of the atmo. but I dont know what to do: all the atmo with the same color(lower upper sky) or not, doing something different. what do you say?
i found the flare.jpg in the celestia\tectures directory. can i do something with that pic? or put flares on a planet??
thanks

ok no problem. i will try to do something different.
i read on one post about someone that has "many different star types, including blu and red giants as white dwarfs, double stars, the pulsar, the NGC1999, Homunculus and Rosette nebulas, the open and globular clusters, the Black Hole, the galaxy"
can you tell me where can i find that amassing things for my celestia?

Those addons were written by Rassilon. He used "Emissive true" to make Planet objects look like stars.
His downloads were available at
http://www.shatters.net/~rassilon/
but the Shatters.net file directories are still offline.
Chris is hoping to get them working again Real Soon Now.

El Pelado,
To answer one of your previous questions, Chris probably can be persuaded to provide you with some Gallery space on http://www.shatters.net where you can put your pictures as soon as he's finished fixing the web server. Send him a private message on the Web forum. I'm not sure, but I suspect you'll have to register in order to use the message page.

ElPelado,
I used the Hubble high resolution picture of Carina that is on the Web at http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/2000/06/
I put the picture on a 3DS "billboard" object and used it in Celestia. I turned off the text information display so it'd look better. I realize that's slightly confusing.
For details about using a "billboard", please see my Web page http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/billboard.html I've added a little more information there than is in the Forum posting.
The cover picture on the Celestia Visions forum is the current Hubble "picture of the month" showing the Egg Nebula. See the Web page http://hubble.stsci.edu/newscenter/ for regular updates.
High resolution pictures of the Egg Nebula are on the Web at http://hubble.stsci.edu/newscenter/archive/2003/09/image/a
It's not a pulsar, though, and the colors are all false. The colors are used to represent the different polarizations of the light shining throught shells of gas. Details are on the Web page.
I hope this helps.

Sorry: I thought you were writing about the "Celestial Visions" picture at the top left of the CV Forum page, the one with two light beams at each pole.
I don't know which pulsar you mean. You'll have to include a URL.
I know there was one pulsar which was made from a planet and two comets. I think Rassilon designed another one using 3D Studio Max.
Yes, 3ds files can be exported from 3D Studio Max. That's the program that originally defined that file type. There are many other 3D design programs that can export 3D model files in 3ds format. Many people use Anim8or, because it's free. It's not as complicated as 3D Studio Max, either. See http://www.anim8or.com/
