Orion's Arm: the Terragen Wormhole Nexus

Post #1by selden » 17.08.2016, 19:59

V1.0 of my Orion's Arm Wormhole Nexus Addon for Celestia is now available. If you find anything wrong with it or something that should be improved, please let me know. It's reasonably easy to make additions, corrections or changes to it.

I've created an "Orion's Arm" Web page at
http://www.classe.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/orions_arm/
which includes a link to the Addon.

Alternatively, the Addon itself can be downloaded from
http://www.classe.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/orions_arm/files/oa_wormhole_nexus.zip
It's about 18MB and expands to about 39MB.

Many thanks to members of the Orion's Arm Project for their help and suggestions.
Selden

Thank you for all your hard work, Selden! The wormhole nexus in Orion's Arm has grown up rather piecemeal, since only a small fraction of it has been described in any detail. In this fictional universe there are supposed to be around ten million wormholes, connecting the most important stars in a region about six thousand light years in radius. Selden's add-on includes wormholes which are representative of the entire system, taken from the OA wormhole gazetteer here

It is HUGE! Ingenious! I wish Celestia would be able to create galactic maps like this "in real time"...

Incidentally the Orion's Arm addons at the Celestia Motherlode have been superceded by the ones on these pages;
http://www.orionsarm.com/xcms.php?r=oa-page&page=gen_OACelestia1
there are four pages of these.

I've made at least thirty other addons for OA which I haven't released, since they mostly show a single planet with no moons, spacecraft or megastructures- almost every time we put a new planet on the Orion's Arm site I make a new texture for it, using a variety of techniques, but to make them into formal addons I'd need to do some serious tweaking.
Here, for instance, is New Dumont
