STC RA/Dec question.

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 04.08.2012, 01:13

For the Right Ascension and Declination coordinates for stars in STC files, how many digits beyond the decimal point will Celestia read/take into account before ignoring numbers after that point?

Celestia converts the input to 64bit double precision floating point. That allows for roughly 15 digits of precision. It doesn't matter where the decimal point is among those digits. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-pre ... int_format
