Vesta.1 year and almost NOTHING

Dawn is almost one year in orbit of Vesta. However,we only have a partial texture map of Vesta, made by particle grasp that doesn?t fit very well in the model and nothing more.I wonder if the most difficult thing is to made a model and we already have a pretty good model for the asteroid, why we don?t have higher resolution and global map textures of Vesta?

Incorrect. It's always a good idea to first do some research before criticizing...

ChrisL made a nice hires add-on from Robert Gaskell's shape model of Vesta and other asteroids. He offered it for download already end of last year!

http://www.celestiaproject.net/~claurel/celest ... models.zip

The add-on contains vesta, phobos, mimas, phoebe, itokawa and eros

Actually I was already using gaskell models, because the particle grasp addon have only a model and not a texture. But the texture is yellowish and incomplete. because is in dxtnm texture. The texture only appears in Open GL 2.0.But I wonder when are we going to have good textures in jpg and png?Eros,Vesta and Itokawa are not true textures applied in the models, but actually texturized models.
And I miss texture for minor moons of Saturn (specially Prometheus and Epimetheus) and for other asteroids like Steins and Lutetia.

I corrected it with unmanned spaceflight texture from Steve Albers homepage and the vesta.cmod model by gaskell.I wasn?t seeing the alternate texture, too.

You are misinterpreting the facts: In ChrisL's addon, the .dxt5nm files are high resolution normalmaps that are wrapped around asteroid models of lower resolution. This technique creates an impression of 3d models with much higher resolution and thus saves a lot of resources. It is possible to apply also a conventional texture besides the normalmap, but there is no global map of Vesta containing exclusively albedo variations.

Anyway, the title of your thread : Vesta, 1 year and almost NOTHING is simply impertinent!
Notably, since you went through all these points already earlier and ChrisL explained all the reasoning to you half a year ago!

Since a long time, no development is done anymore for rendering paths other than OpenGL 2. You should know this meanwhile.

Sorry for this
What about Celestia.Sci.When will be avaliable and how much will be?
I saw a picture of Vesta in the Celestial Matters forum.
