*Twitch* It just keeps coming and coming over and over again

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 07.07.2012, 06:33

I'm talking about the flood of Star Trek screenshots in the Celestia Pictures thread. I sincerely mean no offense to the posters of the pics, since I myself love Star Trek, and the quality of the models, and sometimes worlds, being posted are wonderful. :)

But (yes, the dreaded "but" :( ), just about every new post in the Celestia Pictures thread has been Star Trek, and it's been like that for about three months now, and I will admit to getting quite frustrated with each new Star Trek post there lately.

Perhaps there could be a separate Screenshots thread dedicated to not just Star Trek, but Star Wars screenshots too, being directly split from the main Screenshots thread? I think lesser-known science fiction franchises and the Celestia Community's own creative science fiction might be still appropriate for the main Screenshots thread, perhaps?

Anyways, again, I mean no offense, and I do apologize if I upset anyone.

People like to use the Pictures thread to help advertise the Celestia projects that they're working on. For lots of different reasons, many people like Trek spacecraft. You'll see the same effect at scifi-meshes.com. There are more people making models of them than there are people making models of other types of spacecraft.

Actually I'd kinda have to agree. It is getting rather redundant. But I wouldn't want to impose on anyone's creativity.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Yeah, I was hesitating on bringing it up for precisely that reason. :?

That's a good idea, Reiko ... as long as you don't post less of your Star Trek screenshots!

Why not but it's easier and faster to say that to do :!:

Wait and see how time we'll see the next picture...
In my country, we usualy said " Ther is no bone in a tongue"...

J.T.K.,

you apparently misunderstood my comment. But I didn't mean my words in the literal sense.
All I wanted to is show appreciation for Reiko's work. I meant to say that there might also be some people who don't think that the many Star Trek images are boring. So why should we put restrictions on creative forum members?
But if in fact Reiko intends to extend her creativeness to other areas, I think we can only encourage that.
I thought the emoticon also emphasized that my comment wasn't to be taken too serious but in any case friendly.

Andy

I have no trouble posting more material that is not Star Trek related.
In all honesty I have become a bit burned out on Trek due to a wall I've hit in a major project I'm working on. It seems a good time to take a break from it and play with other genres or come up with something original. :blue:

Reiko, I'm in the same boat.
Especially with the recent bombardment of Trek stuff.
I am having a go with the entire BSG systems, lot of work and research, but it's coming along.
Also I am in the process of automating my entire house, touch screens, voice control, ect ect.

Just a suggestion: both Reiko and Fungun are very clever in modifying StarTrek models, in order to use them in Celestia, as shown by the wonderful results they showed in the forum.
Motherlode contains 141 addons regarding StarTrek, but just 18 for StarWars, almost all old and many times unusable in 1.6.1.
But there is a lot of wonderful StarWars models that are available but cannot be used for problems due to textures sizes etc.
Why don't you put your capabilities on this new road?
Here you can find lots of stuff waiting for someone able yo modify it for Celestia:
http://fractalsponge.net/gallery/
http://fractalsponge.net/gallery/ISD/
http://www.scifi3d.com/details.asp?intG ... =8&key=534
The images refer to the gorgeous model of Imperator-class Star Destroyer by Ansel Hsiao that, alas, has problems, as details in wrong positions (rotated?).
Images have been reduced to only 800 pixel for size limitation, but looking it on the screen is wonderful.
Could you, please, give it a try?
Whatever will be your reply, thank you for all what you did, very appreciated.
Bye

Hello goofy, Why have you forgotten bdfd ? :(
He also made ??great vessels of Star Trek :) , no :?:
Hi J.T.K., no, I haven't.
J just replied to the two guys who were regretting their excessive interest for StarTrek models.

Of course and your pictures prove it.
Star wars models are grey or black or white so not beautiful :
another example-cons : babylon5's models, these are beautiful models...
Hummm, it looks like we have two different approaches to models value.
You are speaking of colors, I'm speaking of details, realism and quality, and these are two completely different things.
FYI I never made a show using some of the 136 Babilon5 models, because they look more as biological specimens that spaceships, but it's just my opinion (beg your pardon bcelestia).
I'm only regretting that an important saga like StarWars has been almost completely ignored by Celestia modellers.
Bye.

Not to mention that the only major Star Wars project for Celestia, an attempt to implement everything in the SW galaxy, was a complete disaster.

Second that re: the Star Wars add-on. Ambitious? Absolutely. Executed well? Not so much. Maybe smaller sections, a little at a time, and well done would have been the answer. My 2 cents...

I rather like the "biologic" look of the Babylon-5 models...incredibly well done.

The issue has inflamed recently and members are at each other's throats.

I propose we move all the monotonous Star Trek material to its own thread where it can be easily ignored by those without interest.

I apologize for contributing to the inflammation earlier, but, truth be told, I don't think Star Trek saturation is the primary cause, cuz I've seen escalating tensions across the board (literally and figuratively) for many months now, and it was not too long ago there was a standoff between Fridger and ajtribick over petty differences in the spectbins file. :?
