John,

for comparison, here is 433 Eros as done by ChrisL ('gaskell' data) recently for his Cosmographia.
These asteroids are MUCH more 'light-weight' : Just 1.7 MB for the model and 5.5 MB for the hires normal map (.dxt5nm).

Sorry for quoting an old post, but...

Did it happen to record Don. Edwards' directory as well? I think I recall him mentioning directory issues or something a few years ago before he left.

Maybe. I don't recall what his directory name was, though. If you can find out what it was, let us know. If it was recorded, you can retrieve it by substituting its name in the archive URL in place of "~rassilon".

I came up with evey combination I could think of, but got nothing.

Maybe you might have it in very old history in your browser, perhaps?

Granted, it's possible he might have sent them a message requesting it to be deleted?

I noticed JTK has been inundating this thread with Star Trek screenshots but would like to add some more.

This features a mesh by D. McCoy on BC but I added more movie realistic lighting.

Now, I don't remember if I added that or if he did, but I thought it was funny. I decided to convert it to absorption values, and got this:

Turned out kinda pretty, didn't it? :)

On an unrelated note; because I have WAY too much time on my hands...
Image

I completely overhauled the inner Solar System!
All of the terrestrials except Mercury were demoted to Moon status.

Venus:
Image

I also took the time to give Venus a proper Mie atmosphere.
No clouds:
Image

(The Rotation Period for Venus looks funny because I was too lazy to rotate the texture and instead flipped the obliquity and gave it a negative rotation to maintain the tide-lock. )

For Earth:

(I think I posted this one here a while back. :) )
You can see the Moon in the distance.

And finally, Mars:

I so much love your planets and systems. I can still use help on crater rocky planets and gas giants. :blue:

This is not exactly Celestia, but I created the Vertilu gas giant planet in Photoshop
Vertilu is a planet that is part of my addon Boliverius Alvera Sagittarii
you can also see the Earth-like world Atlanticus Alvera Vertilus

I don't know yet, how I create a planetary ring with Photoshop, Vertilu is a gas giant with rings

Having two different versions of Nibiru, the Rob Sanders one and my own version, resulted in their orbits resembling a figure-8 when seen from a certain angle and distance.

figure_8.jpg

That, along with the orbit of my Persephone addon, make it look like a crooked flying insect. With the orbit of my doomsday gas giant, it looks like a lawn ornament.

Here's a system I'm still working on. Based on Monica Hughes "Keeper of the Isis Light" novel. This is the third planet in the system, the texure based on the Air Mountains in Niger...

I've been using satellite images lately for textures (mainly desert and ice worlds), and I've been pretty happy with the results.

Looks like that variant has a much more flattened saucer than the standard nebula.

Here's something new:

bh_lethe_tartarus1.jpg

Lethe and Tartarus occulting Belle Hades, seen from afar, with a large magnification.

And no, this isn't some fancy new 40 million stars database. That's not until about 2020 or so. ;)

It's clever Gimping: I took a screenshot of a hopefully uniform-looking star-field at 1.41x magnification and high magnitude limit, then applied a layer mask to the star-field screenshot, allowing Belle Hades and her moons to peek through. :)

Here's another "something new."

Hera, a fictional moon of Jupiter, kept warm by tidal interactions with Jupiter. The inner 3 Galileans were moved to wee bit more distant orbits, meticulously calculated to allow Hera to be placed. Callisto was already in a great spot to begin with.

hera1.jpg

Also, a normal map for Jupiter is sorely lacking. So, I added one. And clouds.

Another shot of Jupiter and Hera -- This time seen from Earth.

You can see Hera's huge, sharp shadow being cast on Jupiter.
