The keys noted to use for Linux do not work that way. I needed to use [Ctrl+G] for GotoSurface, and [Ctrl + Shift + F] to enable Azimuth mode.
Not sure who might want to change the faq, or if it needs to be fixed.

Using celestia 1.6.1 under arch linux.

EVERYTHING is a manual install

You must have your own definition of manual.

so just What did you instal GUI wise

As I said previously, I installed celestia 1.6.1.

It is compiled against the gtk libraries.

That's not what the FAQ page says.

That FAQ entry for Linux is a historical leftover! At the time, Linux meant mostly Celestia-KDE3, since that version was most advanced (bookmarks etc). In KDE3, CTRL+G and CTRL+F were, however, preassigned with some KDE3 specific system commands. That's why we had to use ALT+S and ALT+F instead for the KDE3 version at the time.

Anyway, the GTK and GNOME versions for Linux always used CTRL+G (GoTo surface) and CTRL+SHIFT + F (AltAzimuth mode) and this is still true.
