 Why is Amalthea bright red? I've tried removing the colour line in the ssc, and toning down the saturation of the texture but to no avail. Also, some of my asteroids are not displaying they're textures, they appear smooth. The correct colour, but smooth. Can anyone please advise.
Superb programme by the way, really outstanding.

Bright red Amalthea and asteroids with no texture
Hi system1264,
The red of Amalthea is defined with the 3DS model. I made a new texture and model for Amalthea. You can download these form Celestial Visions. For the untextured asteroids look please if you find the asteroid.jpg in the medres or lowres folder. It seem they is missed.
Bye Jens

Yes, amalthea is supposed to be red, but if you wanto to modify 3ds files i would definitly reccomend anim8or- http://www.anim8or.com It takes a bit of getting used to, but I find its great for pretty much everything you'd want to do with these models!
Hi system1264,
3D Sudio max is the best choise but for a modeling newbe very hard. I think Anim8or (http://www.Anim8or.com) is for the beginning not bad. I'd tested other software but most times is the export to the 3DS format the problem especially if you have textured models. Look at "Selden's List of Resources for Celestia" for links to futher 3D software.
Make a new (clean) Celestia installation in an other folder, start this and look if there is the same problem. (You can install more then one versions of Celestia but in differnet folders!)
This line is with my model and texture no longer needed. Comment it out "# blend texture true".
I think this means that the color of model is mixed with the texture.
Sum0, i don't know why Amalthea looks red but you can search the net for information ;-)

It does seem that the color of Celestia's model of Amalthea is somewhat exagerated.
Although various papers claim that color pictures of Amalthea have been taken by Galileo, so far I haven't found any on the Web.
The best picture I've found so far is at http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap951103.html
It was taken by Voyager and is more orange than red.
