I agree with John, here; also myself need help from MAC users for a better assessment of the add-ons' "readme.txt" files.
Never at rest.

Hi John...

I posted this on another thread...

"On my mac it's Applications/Celestia 1.6.0/Celestia.app - show package contents/Contents/Resources/CelestiaResources/

The standard folders reside here (Models, Data, Textures)

For add-ons it's similar...

Applications/Celestia 1.6.0/Celestia.app - show package contents/Contents/Resources/CelestiaResources/extras-standard

Most of the add-ons will unzip to a folder which you put in here.

I only have two folders following your path...

extras (no items) scripts (no items)

These do not exist... on my sys.
"/Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/CelestiaResources/Textures"
"/Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/CelestiaResources/Data"
"/Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/CelestiaResources/extras-standard"

Code: Select all

/Applications/Celestia.app/Contents/Resources/CelestiaResources/
This is the default application bundle. extras-standard, data and textures are sub-folders. Manually adding textures and extras to these folders work, but bear in mind that installing a new version of Celestia.app over a previous one may overwrite content in these subfolders.

Code: Select all

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/CelestiaResources/extras/
works, which i believe should be the recommended one.

Not sure if this is clobbered as well during updates, depends on the installer I guess. New to celestia, haven't had a chance to test the update process yet, thanks for a wonderful program to all contributors.

Hope this helps, cheers.

It would also help if Mac and Linux users would update the WikiBook to include Mac and Linux specifics. Right now it has almost no guidance for people using operating systems other than Windows.

See, for example,

same for mac, CTRL v in mac as well, and installation was drag n drop simple. It's only installing the extras which required what little extra effort that was required. Some of the docs point to dropping hi-res images to the CelestiaResources/textures/hires as you pointed out in your first post. The textures folder is not created by default in /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/CelestiaResources/ , but is available in /Applications/Celestia.app/Contents/Resources/CelestiaResources/ so users might tend to drop the images there.

These are not symlinks.
