... something that may or may not be true, ... may or may not exist, ... may or or may not happen, etc.

eg. "Hypothetically, if Germany beats England, --> then Fridger will be happy" (but not necessarily.. as he prefers chess. )
--> This statement describes a "hypothetical" state of mind (happiness)...hypothetical, because I don't know it to be true, it's only a theory I have formed based on his nationalitiy.
