Please continue this service if you would. Although I am a Vista user, I'm
certain other MAC users (Brain-Dead like myself  ) may well appreciate
this service.

Sorry, but I'm afraid that I simply do NOT have the brain cells it requires to
compile the source code. :D

Many thanks for your help here.

While it's ok for you to release such SVN versions you should continue. I'm sure many people will appreciate the effort.
Perso I do my own osX build, but anyway Tx!

There are two main package formats: deb and rpm:

Deb:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deb_%28file_format%29

Debreate - Debian Package Builder:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/debreate/

Another tool:

Rpm:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rpm_(software)

Creating RPM packages:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/quick-docs/en-US/creating-rpm-packages.html

Outside of these formats, there is an interesting project OpenPKG:
( the creator of rpm5 has joined this project)

duds26, Thanks for the information. However I may not plan to build Linux version. Ill just keep both the Mac and the Windows version going.

See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/D ... x_platform , maybe you can do the job for us. :)

Nice link you've got there :D , very handy:).
I haven't much time currently, must study for exams and stuff.

Will look into it but don't know when.
I first have to learn a bit about unix/Linux development.
It's on my long term todo list.

Looks like compiling Celestia into a working binary won't be as difficult as getting the packages rolled out:

EDIT: Have found a good link to a tutorial about making .deb packages:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=51003

Anyway, this looks also promising:

The latest SVN I downloaded said it was 170 build 534. But when I start Celestia it still says 1.6.0 and not 1.7.0.

You can change the version string that shows up in Win32 splash screen and Win32 and Qt4 help/about menus there:
Win32:
E:\SVN\celestia\src\celestia\win32\res\resource.h
Qt4:
E:\SVN\celestia\src\celestia\qt\qtappwin.ccp

Additionally, to see the embedded version string in properties (when right-clicking the Win32 exe):
E:\SVN\celestia\src\celestia\win32\res\celestia.rc

I you want to build a release InnoSetup installer package, you can also make a change there:
E:\celestia_5038\celestia\celestia.iss
This is cosmetic as it will only show the version string during InnoSetup installation run and not in Celestia properties, splash or help menus as above.

BTW, the path to your Celestia sources may be different from mine.
