Has anyone communicated with Dirkpitt recently?
He has not posted on either Celestia forum for a long time.

Re: Where on Earth Is Dirkpitt?
Indeed, CC,
I am also sorry that DW (aka Dirkpitt) has so quietly vanished from the shatters.net and CM communities! This also means that my new F-Textools and Nmtools will so far not be distributed including MacOS binaries...
The last mail I have from DW is from the Celestia developers list, dated April 18, 2009. Just a little after his last shatters.net post.
Sadly it said:
----------------------------------
Don't leave, we need you!
DW
----------------------------------
when Christophe (ElChristou) had just announced to leave the shatters.net community because he was so upset about various issues and related incidents around Celestia Dev and shatters.net ...

Re: Where on Earth Is Dirkpitt?
Last contact I had with DW was when I was collaborating with him on his new tile-rendering code which was looking like a very useful enhancement to Celestia's screen-shot functionality.
He made a lot of progress with this feature in a short period of time, but I don't know if he ever got around to committing any of that code to CVS / SVN, so sadly it may be lost to Celestia forever.
I also committed considerable effort and time in testing and giving him feedback on this feature, so I am sad that this enhancement may now not be realized..
DW, if you're lurking, please return to us or PM / email us your intentions.
Your skills are in the meantime sorely missed!

Yes between his last post in the Dev list on April 18 and the post linked to by CC's above, he visited the scatters.net forum a last time on Mon Apr 13, 2009 0:34, which becomes apparent from clicking on his profile link...

Re: Where on Earth Is Dirkpitt?
By coincidence, a movie on TV here tonight gives some clues to Dirkpitt's whereabouts...
Sahara
Master explorer Dirk Pitt goes on the adventure of a lifetime of seeking out a lost Civil War battleship known as the "Ship of Death" in the deserts of West Africa while helping a UN doctor being hounded by a ruthless dictator.
Perhaps he's on a Saharan adventure, which would explain his absence from the forum.
