It's all yours but there is a weird flicker in the left warp engine. it shows up in celestia and anim8tor and 3ds max. Not sure what the cause is or how to correct it.

Hi everyone, do you all remember how looks like my gas giant Polyphemus from Avatar movie? Not so good right? New is completely different, let's see what I'm talking about.



Try compare my Polyphemus with this one in movie, tell me what you all thinking about my job, all feedback are welcome.

P.S. This one is my very good candidate to replace old giant in new version of my Avatar System.

View from a moon orbiting an inhabited world.

On Monday, I was about to do my usual habit of watching binary sunsets in real time when I discovered that the moons of the planet I was on were about to do a conjunction at a very good angle from the two suns, and a major city I was watching the sunsets at just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

This is the result:

I always find the CICLOPS website interesting, and like to see how their planned observations compare with the Celestia Cassini trajectory, then I see if I can recreate some of their images. Not too bad in most cases, although they state that the Dione/Titan haze event was to occur on the 20th April, instead of the 19th which I managed to find in Celestia - timezone differences maybe?

On the previous orbit Orbit Rev 129 to quote CICLOPS at http://www.ciclops.org/view/6299/Rev129

"On April 2, Cassini will image Epimetheus as the moon transits the south polar region of the larger co-orbital satellite, Janus."

and ,

"On April 11, Cassini will image another transit of Janus by Epimetheus."

Now these have been a challenge, which I've failed dismally to re-create - an April fools joke maybe

I have similar problems. My guess is that it's a result of not having updated my Cassini trajectory file for the last five years.

I notice in the SCM repository, the Cassini files in extras-standard are 18 months old now, and the mission data runs out in July 2010. I hopes there's plans for an update to include the extended mission.

While i was trying to re-create the Janus/Epimetheus transit I did discover this nice alignment of Janus, Titan and Dione on 11th April 2010.

For fun and some serious cpu burn-in, the screenshot below shows two instances of Celestia running at the same time.
The Qt version is always a little bit faster, despite the more sophisticated menu system.
Regular Celestia runs on core 2 and Celestia-Qt4 on core 4. Aero is disabled here.
There are still 2 cores left to deal comfortably with other stuff on the two other displays: web, music listening, photo editing ... and a dozen background apps.
This is a perfect demonstration of hardware being way ahead of most software pieces that still run on one cpu only.
