(Ice creams are very good in Italy! That I prefer is that with the cooked cream. And when I went in Rome, I tried (tasted) even a Roquefort' ice cream (a french cheese!).

Argh! No thanks, I don't know how gelato is eaten in NZ but here is a serious affair and assumes even social customs: at least cone for men and cup for women. It's difficult to see a woman eating cone ice-cream: too erotic.

I'd love to comment on the Freudian aspects of Italian men's connection with food, women, their Momma's home cooking, etc, etc,.., but in this forum any generalization like that is likely to be deemed Racial Profiling, so I'm afraid I must refrain from going there...

As for gelato in NZ... it pales in comparison to the Italian version. Technically, I don't think NZ ice-cream can actually be called gelato because of the ingredients and the way it's made.
Personally, if money was no object, I'd return to Italy anytime, just for the gelato and the coffee!! ... (Not to mention...the antipasti, the pasta, ....)
