Deimos hi poly is entirely white
Deimos hi poly is entirely white
I downloaded Deimos hi poly and unzipped to Celestia 1.6.0>Extras and it has a similar problem as Mercury. It is white and seems featurless. The strangest thing is that Phobos hi poly don?t have this problem and both are in the same directory.

Huh. I tried the low_poly model earlier today and didn't have that problem. I would ask if your video card can handle it, but... your hi_poly one works fine.
I'm stumped

As you should now by now,I have a Geforce GTS 250, equivalent to a 9800 GTX+.
Re: Deimos hi poly is entirely white
A white object usually means that the surface texture image file cannot be found or cannot be loaded for some reason.
Celestia's "console log" (shift-tilde) usually contains error messages when that problem happens.

Only said that there was an error loading the textures, but I don?t know why.See the image, but sorry for the language is in portuguese, but the version is localized.

john Van Vliet wrote:no wonder you are having problems
people just DO NOT READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
read the README
it states to unzip into your celestia folder NOT your /celestia/extras folder!!!
your pic clearly shows that it is looking in celestia/extras/extras/JohnVV/...
You tell him, John...
I tested both models, and each worked perfectly when installed as instructed.
Thanks, Brain-Dead
EDIT:
By the way, why do we have two new ones already? Just curious.

I cut from Celestia>extras>extras and paste JVV folder in Celestia>extras and the situation is the same.Mercury is bland,as is Deimos.

Daniel,
Forget about trying to fix it by hand.
You should just delete the entire thing from the extras folder, and then re-install it from the ZIP file, but this time specify the Celestia folder as the extraction destination.

Re: Deimos hi poly is entirely white
It wasn?t necessary.
I fixed the problem. For some unknown reason, the 4KDeimos was out of the medres folder (Celestia>extras>JVV>textures>medres).I put it in place and everyting else was fine.
But I don?t understand what?s happening with Mercury since even the default texture mercury.jpg didn?t show up.Only the limit of knowledge is shown...

Re: Deimos hi poly is entirely white
I?m using Nvidia drivers and a GTS 250 can handle a 8K MESH.
I don?t understand what you are taking about. The mercury.* don?t have anything to do with altsurface.I guess is a bug of Celestia 1.6.0, since even when I didn?t put an altsurface extension, Mercury still remained white!
