First impressions of GTS 250 disappointing

The GTS 250 has a bandwidht of 70.4 GB/s against 33.6 GB/s of my old 8800 GS.It has 256 bits against 192 bits of the 8800 GS.And so on,so on...i was astonished to realize a worse of the perfomance in the Mars 2 model.I can?t believe it. 8O Could be the driver? It is 191.07.

Are you using the same OS that you were with your previous card? What else has changed other than the card?

(It would be easier for people to advise you if you give full descriptions of your old and new systems, but in the meantime you should check that you are using the latest driver for the card/OS combination you are currently using).

I assume your old system was an XP system, and your current system is either Vista or Windows 7.....(There's a significant difference already).

No,the OS is the same:Windows Vista Ultimate x64.
The only difference is that the old OS was with SP1 and now is SP2.
I only changed the video card from a 8800 GS to a GTS 250 and put another 2 GB RAM DDR2 800.Both modules of 2 GB are identical. The driver I?m using is 191.07,maybe the same of the VGA box...
Celestia is annoying me,but synthetic tests are almost good.I get an increase of about 27000 to about 40000 in 3D Mark 2003 and an increase from 10000 to almost 16000 in 3D Mark 2005.The only other problem is Aquamark 3; I get an increase of less than 1000 points!

Just in passing:

my GX 9500GT card in my new office desktop machine just costs a bit more than $50  and got 38000 points in 3D Mark 2003. Moreover it performs marvelously fast with Celestia (see e.g. this thread: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14229&start=12). Last not least, it's passively cooled and thus completely noiseless!

I am fully satisfied with this bargain card (despite not having paid for it ;-) )

I suspect the reason for your constant complaints about bad performance no matter what computer and graphics card you are trying is rooted in far too many add-ons...

I strictly use NONE, ever since ;-)

But I am using the SAME NUMBER of addons as before. The GTS 250 is at least 50% faster than my old 8800 GS,as I could see in the TLR Benchmark.I think the problem is some adjustments.Maybe the newest driver is not the best... 8O
Of course in a Celestia installment with very few addons,I would have a boost in perfomance, but I was testing the Mars2 model as a benchmark itself.

No,I was wrong.
The GTS 250 REALLY performs better. In Io volcanoes,I have a maximum of 50 fps compared to about 30 in 8800 GS and in Mars2 3d addon,I get around 55-60 fps without clouds and 30-45 fps with clouds. The VGA is not broken, after all.I disable the antivirus and other running programs. But still there is some instability in a almost fresh Celestia 1.5.1 when I get to the ISS (is not the hi res model), I get as low as 15 fps in some moments...

This is incredible! With Io volcanoes (Chris' add-on) I get 34 fps V-synch ON (Geforce 6100 256 Mb shared memory). Danielj, try to disable v-synch, or set the monitor's refresh as much as possible with your resolution.
Never at rest.

It?s not ONE addon. It?s two addons combined:Io and Io volcanoes (sprites).Only one addon and I get almost maximum frame rate...
