Globular Cluster Generator

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 25.07.2009, 23:15

Is it possible to get Rassilon's Globular Cluster Generator to work in windows vista?

I keep getting the following error:

while I have no idea what that globular cluster generator is supposed to do, let me remind you that Celestia 1.6.0 has a nice one built in ;-). It uses 8500 stars, has many realistic features and allows users to generate their own (fictional) globular clusters anywhere in the Universe. Of course, all 150 known globular clusters within our galaxy are already implemented.

I use it to populate other galaxies and the random solar system generator is a big help too.

I know this topic is "Not so fresh" But i too LOVE rassilion's globular cluster generator, especially since it creates actual STC files, meaning the stars in the cluster will actually be "point and go to" stars, instead of like the default cluster in celestia, where you have to view the cluster as a whole.

There is one thing i would have liked to see done to his program however. I would have loved to see a feature added where you can control what spectral types will dominate your fictional cluster. Say you were filling in another galaxy with stars, and it has a star cluster made up of mostly B and O class stars, since the current generator completely randomizes the spectral types in the clusters, going back and changing the spectral types in a large cluster would be a REAL P.I.T.A.

Thanks for hearing my 2 cents

Reiko and I are very puzzled about this, as i have Windows Vista Home premium, service pack 1, and it is working for me!

I have the following files in my Generator folder...

Log (folder)

Cluster (application)

Readme

ST6UNST

Global.CFG

And yet i can get mine to work. Maybe theres something about which TYPE of windows vista you use, like me having home premium, and if someone else had the windows vista for business?

I guess one of us should contact Rassilon and ask him if he can make it vista compatible.

I have already tried, Bob Hedgewood said that he has been "missing in action" for months now, makes us wonder if he quit celestia? :?
