Hi all,
I have read and re-read the forum about creating lines between stars using the asterisms.dat file.No matter what I do whenever I try to alter the file none of the lines appear there after(including any of the constellations).
I have to re download the entire file and start again.I have the latest version of Celestia running on windows XP,I have managed with little difficulty to edit,Stars/Planets etc.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Nick

Re: Lines between Stars
What program are you using to edit the file?
A "word processing" program like Word is likely to damage the file because it "knows" that certain combinations of ASCII characters are supposed to be changed into a single typographical character.
Celestia needs the ASCII characters to be left unchanged.
A "text processing" program like Notepad is less likely to damage the file in that way.
Also, it probably would help if you were to start with a simplified file containing only a singe asterism instead of all of them.
Also, be sure to associate files with the .dat filetype with Notepad (or other text processor) and turn off "hide known file extensions". Otherwise, Windows will attach an invisible .txt filetype to asterisms.dat, which will prevent Celestia from finding it.

Re: Lines between Stars
You could make a cmod for the lines that way your lines can be different colors.
