Sorry to disrupt in this topic but I'm one of the users on the dark side; I'm using an ATI card and everything works perfectly, I'm not lacking any of the "eye candy" features of Celestia. I'm using a quite old PC (P4 1.5Gib RAM). Here are some shots using latest 1.6RC and FPS always vary from 25 to 50. All is enabled except from clouds in the Earth shots.

Hi,
If you are looking for better performance without considering the cost. As per my experience i will suggest you to go for Nvidea Graphic card because its by far the best option to go for.

I recently bought a Geforce GTS 250.The bandwidht is more than the double of my present 8800 GS (70 GB/s against 34 GB/s).So I think I now can display even the more detailed models or textures without slowdown at least in 1280X1024 (the maximum my monitor can afford)
