But seriously, this means a supplementary relation (Mass-Luminosity) is now urgently needed, if we want to have any sort of realism at the app.mag front for the components...

PS: This becomes even more important if we consider multiple (hierarchical) systems a la A.A. Tokovinin...

That's why I was bringing it to the attention of others with better access to primary references.

I hope I wasn't too rude in my previous post but it was very late when I posted it and I was tired after a long day.

I have found more spectroscopic binaries with incorrect brightnesses.

Beta Arietis. Apparent magnitude of each component (Celestia): A=2.60, B=2.64. Apparent V magnitude (SIMBAD): 2.64.
CCDM J21158+0515. Apparent magnitude of each component (Celestia): A=3.92, B=3.92. Apparent V magnitude (SIMBAD): 3.949.

Is celestia 1.6.0 finally released?

"celestia-win32-1.6.0.exe 26-Jun-2009 10:41 34M "

in http://www.celestiaproject.net/~claurel/celestia/files/ is able to be downloaded.
and also in celestia/tags/ in svn, there is "ver1_6_0" folder.

Don't bother downloading from shatters.net. The 1.6.0 packages for Windows and Mac are on SourceForge. There will be an official release announcement very soon.

Any chance of sneaking a couple of mods in before the final release? :)

1. Celestia.cfg currently allows adjustment of the rate of keypress and mouse sensitivity
(RotateAcceleration and MouseRotationSensitivity)

Would it be possible to add an option to adjust the rate of exponential zoom feature as well? - - By modification of the exponential power,
- and possibly even allowing a constant rate zoom.. which might be useful in limited situations.

2. The acceleration/deceleration function (A and Z keys) currently seems to be referenced to traveling in Universal coordinates only.
This means that if you are traveling above Earths surface in a straight line, your travel path will not be straight relative to the surface of the Earth below you. (A coriolis effect will be observed)
[Also, strange things happen in SYNC mode -- when pressing the A key, the motion appears to shoot off to one side rather than straight ahead. It only seems to work correctly in FOLLOW mode]

What I was thinking is that now that we have all these wonderful reference frame capabilities, would it be possible to add a new capability to reference the motion created by the A key to the bodyframe of the selected object. -- This would allow genuine straight line travel relative to a point on a planetary or other surface.

This might also fix the problem in SYNC mode.

These are both good ideas, but they won't make it into version 1.6.0. The version has been feature complete for some time, and the official release will be ready today.

I understand enough of that message to know I'm getting the exact same error. What's the deal here? I've downloaded from 2 or 3 different places, all do this.

Oh no... I'm sure that the problem is more Windows runtime DLL issues, but I thought that these were dealt with in 1.6.0RC3.

Did you happen to install 1.6.0RC3? If so, did that version work for you?

Setup of 1.6.0final from SF creates a celestia.exe with 5.602 KB (!). 8O
Something strange must be happen while you did compile this version.

OK... The problem with the 1.6.0 Win32 release is fixed. I accidentally stuck a debug exe in the release. I've replaced the 1.6.0 Win32 release on SourceForge with a new version. My apologies for the troubles. Fortunately, the release mail for the Win32 package hadn't gone out yet.

Could I see a link to a download that is confirmed to produce a workable installation? I searched sourceforge for Celestia and I'm still getting installations with the error message.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/celesti ... e/download

I've gotten reports that this new package is working well. Make sure that the date says July 9, and the size is 33.6 MB.
