Tycho star names

Post #1by thefallenghost » 22.05.2009, 01:59

How can I name a star by many names AND a Tycho name in order to be able to select the star with any of the names (including Tycho)in the Go-To search?

The names that you want to be visible in the tab-completion field should be placed in an STC file in the Star's name field, separated by colons.

Star "name 1:name 2:name 3" { ...}

See the Celestia Wikibook for details.

Did you also specify the pseudo-Hipparcos number that Celestia uses to index Tycho catalog entries?

Please reread the Wikibook page, especially the section

I put both the Star 1047991733 at the beginning and followed by inputing the TYC 4799-1733-1 as one of the names in quotes separated by colons. However, in Celestia the name TYC 4799-1733-1 appears where I put it (2nd) AND at the end, so twice. How do I solve this?

I don't think you can.

If you want it to be in the tab-completion list, it has to be in the name field.
Celestia shows all of the names plus all of the catalog indexes. It doesn't detect duplicates.
