Adding caracteristics (lines) for deep space objects

Post #1by thefallenghost » 08.05.2009, 03:13

I'm new to Celestia and I would like to add additional information about deep space objects such as nebulae. In fact, I tried to change the name "Nebula" once on an add-on but was forced to renounce because the object wouldn't exist anymore if I gave any other type than "Nebula". I also tried to add the type "HII" to nebula RCW 79 (also an add-on) but failed again.
Please help me,
Thanks.

"Nebula" is a classification used by Celestia to indicate a deep space object which can use a 3D model for its shape. You should not think of it as an astronomical category in this context.

Unfortunately, Celestia does not yet directly support the specification of many of the different types of deep space astronomical categories. I hope that some might be available in the next major release of Celestia after v1.6. For the time being, you'll have to specify the object's type in its name field.

For example:

Code: Select all

Nebula "Sh2-242 (H II)" {
 Mesh "sh2-242.3ds"
 RA 5.76       # 05 45.6
 Dec 26.9833 #+26 59
 Distance  6850
 Radius 7
}
