Well that's why .stc files have a SemiAxes property, so you don't need to make model files. (The order of the parameters is somewhat odd however, with the polar axis being the y axis, rather than the z axis as it is for .ssc files)danielj wrote:I saw somewhere, that these stars that spins too fast are not perfect spheres, but rather spheroidals. So we need separate models for stars like Regulus,Altair and Achernar!

Do you suppose that white dwarf is close enough for mass transfer to occur?
If so the white dwarf might blow up occasionally. That could be interesting...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
Apparently Regulus Aa rotates anomalously fast. Possibility is that Regulus A is a post mass-transfer system: when Regulus Ab went through the red giant stage, it transferred mass to Regulus Aa and spun it up... this is consistent with the low inferred mass of the white dwarf. (Regulus Ab has at least 0.3 solar masses. The star has not yet been directly observed, but since it probably orbits in Regulus Aa's equatorial plane, the inclination degeneracy is removed, plus there are a whole bunch of constraints because of the effects of Regulus Aa's flattened shape on the orbit that imply the mass can't be much greater than this). Because this neatly explains the currently-observed properties of the system, the discoverers prefer the white dwarf hypothesis to the red dwarf hypothesis, both of which would explain why the star hasn't been seen in interferometric observations. The system doesn't appear to show signs of mass transfer at present, but when Regulus Aa goes through its red giant stage, mass transfer back to Regulus Ab will probably begin, with all the fun associated with accretion onto white dwarf stars. No idea whether such a situation could plausibly lead to a type Ia supernova, given the low mass of the WD.

FireStar System
January 26th 3009
One thousand years from now the Union has colonised this far away system for its own. The Union, distant descendents of the European Federation, is a Technocracy located 6500 light years away. For 900 years it has favoured scientific advancement and the acquirement and understanding of knowledge its priority and these humans are unrecognisable from those in the 21st century due to the Genetic and Cybernetic enhancement. This is one of their earlier projects, the Chenghou Project. A swarm of thousands of satellites orbit a dying red giant star. Using pulsed graviton beams they are able to extract energy that would otherwise be expended in a supernovae. They pass it through the wormhole grid to the Hundreds of billions of Union citizens. The control centre, Union Station, orbits Mandrashee. It is a broiled baked world covered in a Crushing 200 Bar Atmosphere and violent winds. Even 22 Astronomical Units from FireStar, its surface temperature is well over 1000K

I know you are not into science fiction but for those of us who are, it's a hobby. Some people for a hobby grow a garden, collect stamps, write poetry etc. Some of us sci-fi lovers read and watch sci-fi when we can. No it isn't realistic but it's fun. Who knows, maybe centuries from now science may be so advanced it may resemble some of the off the wall fantasy tech you see in science fiction.t00fri wrote:

Maxima Ferrox - Magenta B
December 31 3999
No one knows what makes Magenta B pink, spectroscopic scans show a typical M class dwarf star all the way down past the PhotoSphere
even sending Tribe probes into the atmosphere, down to the depths afforded by their TriPhasic Sheilds, nothing abnormal can be determined.
after nearly 2000 years of interstellar exploration, only Magenta B glows Magenta.
Magenta B orbits the nearby G class SubGiant, Home to Planet Peripolis a gaian world similar to earth after the Cambrian Explosion. Misty pine forests and fern analogues are abound.
Prospekt is an epistellar Jovian world with metallic vapour in the atmosphere. It actually raises tides in Magenta’s photosphere, leading to a 6 day cycle of increased flare activity.
Prospekt is orbited by 44 asteroid moons rich in metals and silicates, it was this world that was the primary concern of Empiret Magenta Mining.
Colonised initially in the 31st century as a Federation Beachhead, the system sought to administer several federation colonies set up close to the system. With the influx of people searching for a more independent form of government many people neglected settling in federation colonies and their populations began to dwindle. As less and less demand was being passed through the system the federation found themselves laying off the mining workers that had made this system home, faced with unemployment or leaving their homes, some turned to piracy and began to raid the surrounding independent systems. Rumours of a military strike on the pirates were heard through the grapevine and suddenly the Empiret Magenta Mining Corporation annexed the system. Over the next year other federation colonies in the area were either absorbed or annexed and the Hegemony was born. The Hegemony grew aggressive towards its independent neighbours and began to attack those that were defiant. Some were annexed and absorbed others were destroyed, others exist in a state of tension to this day.
The Rich nature of the Magenta system lent its inhabitants with powerful trade commodities and they dominate the economy of the local stretch of the Gulf. They have fingers in many pies around the area and are also linked to sponsored terrorism and piracy in systems whose policy is in disfavour to the Empiret

The planet of Prospekt looks wrong to me.
Epistellar planets are unlikely to have rings. Either the rings will be abraded by the proximity to the star, or they will spiral into the planet due to tidal locking of the planet.

too true....
OK to retconn,
The asteroidal moons are in unstable orbits, due to the tidal stresses, as such they are constantly colliding and the dust formed settles into the ring system
thanks for the criticism though, its something that i overlooked

Tigris System
May 12th 3288
100 Years earlier the War between the Confederation and the genetically enhanced HyperCats came to an end in a stalemate and eventual Armistice
Under the terms of the Crescent Nebula treaty, the HyperCats would gain their freedom in return for exile from the Confederation. The Cats, having no affiliation to humanity (other than being created by them) obliged. They Settled the Tigris system, and used a combination of gravity modifiers and Wormholes to move 3 planets into orbit around 1 Super Earth world. They were then terraformed and became the Hub of the HyperCat civilisation.
