Castor System - UPDATED
Castor - a "Sex"y, but somewhat duplicitous system
Hi Chuft, please what is wrong with your site since you posted the file I've tried everyday to no avail, it times out. I'm using a 384K broadband connection . I've tried between 0900 in the morning until 2200 in the evening South African time.

Derek,
Although SITESLED was down for about a day, AFAIK it's OK now. The STC file is only 7K in size, and I've just now (22:30 UTC) downloaded it myself with no problems at all.
There may be something wrong at your end of the connection.
Can you see this site?: http://www.sitesled.com/
PS. Just had a thought... I'll PM the file to you.

Re: Castor System - UPDATED
I've recently updated this addon with the addition of a guided tour script.
Please ensure that you read the instructions in the README's BEFORE extracting the ccCastor01.zip file:
If you already have the original version, just delete it before extracting the new version.
Here is the addon itself:

Any idea when your website will be back up? I'm recreating my add-on library, and I'd love to have your O'Neil colony once again (my last installation of Celestia was on an older computer and it, along with the gigabytes of add-ons that I once had, all went... away).

Not any time soon John. (the hosting service is alway down these days). I am not sure which model you mean. Can you post a screenshot, or an old celURL, or text from your old bookmarks.cel file?

Re: Castor System - UPDATED
Unfortunately, all of that is lost. I've started completely from scratch, on a new computer. I know I downloaded it not long after you first put it online. Odds are I never got any updated version. At least, I don't remember updating it.

Re: Castor System - UPDATED
Chuft, I found out about Celestia and your add-on because I regularly read Joe Rao's astronomy column in Natural History Magazine. His article featured graphics which I think he attributed directly to your add-on. In other words, I think I thought your tour of the Castor system would resemble the pictures in the mag. Anyway, they don't. What appears on my Mac OS X 10.5/Macintosh Mini display looks like more of a side view of the system, whereas the pics in the mag appear as if from the top. Think I'm doing something wrong?
Is there a way to modify the Celestia display while scripts are running?

Re: Castor System - UPDATED
jgthomas,
Which version of Celestia are you using? I suspect that you are using a 1.4.x version.
If so, you should download and install the 1.5.1 version appropriate for your OS from: http://shatters.net/celestia/

Re: Mac OS X view of Castor seems wrong
No, it's version 1.5.1 for Macintosh OS X. I just installed it a couple days ago.
Anyway, is the view supposed to be from the 'top' or from the 'side?' Also, how can I back out to get the whole Castor-system view onscreen while the script is running? Is this something you have to set up before you run the script?

Re: Mac OS X view of Castor seems wrong
The script is designed to show the view from the top, however it was created in svn4382.jgthomas wrote:No, it's version 1.5.1 for Macintosh OS X. I just installed it a couple days ago.

1.5.1 is an earlier version than the svn4382 build I think, and pre-dates code-changes which fix the problem you're seeing.
EDIT: edited the following, as earlier comments applied to WINDOWS only (forgot you were OS-X )
I don't know if you are able to compile from sourceforge, but if possible for you to do so, I suggest you compile build 4382 or later, or find a 4382 era or later build for MAC. The latest SVN executable can be found here: http://www.celestialmatters.org/?q=node/132. but it will be a windows build.
I think Cartrite also produces MAC or LINUX builds, so he may be able to provide a suitable executable. (or someone else may do)
You can use the normal Celestia controls to back away during pauses in the script, or you can edit the script itself to adjust the distances.
