True color Enceladus texture
True color Enceladus texture
All recent textures maps of Enceladus are in false color, because depicts the tiger stripes as blue lines.Actually, only Steve Albers is updating constantly the textures. But the blue tiger stripes are NOT VISIBLE in optical wavelenght. So I would like to know where I can find true color Enceladus maps!
Re: True color Enceladus texture
Daniel, my Enceladus texture is a true color one, and produces images very close to the true color pictures form Cassini. Find it at the Celestia section of my webpage, or it's mirror.
Merry Christmas and an excellent 2009 for everybody!

Re: True color Enceladus texture
From what I've seen in true color images, some color is visible to the human eye even if it is much less than in the false-color IR imagery. This can be seen by blinking the color on and off in such an image. There are only some low-resolution images that are in true color that I've seen. Perhaps at higher resolution some more saturated colors would be evident in an RGB image like we see in terrestrial glaciers.
In my latest Enceladus map I've incorporated some desaturated versions of the false-color IR-G-UV imagery to attempt to get some realistic color. Coverage of the color blending is presently limited to mostly in the southern hemisphere. The URL is below:

Re: True color Enceladus texture
Yes John, I can see your texture looks pretty reasonable for color. A good way to check on whether it is exaggerated would be to compare it to an RGB image taken at the same resolution and perspective.
