Hi all;
Ive discovred Celestia 2 week ago and only one word come to my mind WOW
Now i'm learning how to operate it , and it is going well
I have downloaded Texture for Mercury from ( Celestia Motherlode site)
John van Vliet ; VT mercury Surface map (16K) level4 (207Mo)
I install like they say , unzip directly in celestia extras
C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\JohnVV\textures\hires\Mercury.7.08\level4
But when i go to see Mercury i still have the original texture, not the Hires texture
What am i missing or doing wrong ?
Again a big THANK YOU for a great programe

Re: Newbie
Your Program Files\Celestia\extras directory needs to contain the Mercury.7.08.ssc file,
as well as all of the level texture files in the the textures\medres and/or textures\hires files.
To see the high-resolution texture, press CTRL-R.
The ctx file (and the Mercury.7.08 folder) should reside in the hires folder.

Re: Newbie
Bob, you may want to note that this no longer works in SVN versions. It was discontinued. You have to change texture resolutions through a menu. I think this is in the render menu for Windows. Celestia 1.5 still uses that shortcut. Celestia 1.6 will not.Bob Hegwood wrote:To see the high-resolution texture, press CTRL-R.
You should right click on the planet mercury. This should open a small window which should have an entry for Alternate Surfaces. Holding the cursor over this entry will show the available textures. Then position the cursor over your choice and left click. This should load the new texture of Mercury.Astrostart wrote:But when i go to see Mercury i still have the original texture, not the Hires texture

You'll probably also need levels 0, 1, 2, and 3.I have downloaded Texture for Mercury from ( Celestia Motherlode site)
John van Vliet ; VT mercury Surface map (16K) level4 (207Mo)
To see level4 textures you need to be close to the planet. If you have all the levels, the texture will sharpen as you get closer by loading the textures in the higher levels.

Okay, thanks for that Steve...
I reverted back to 1.5.1 because I was having too much trouble with it on this Vista system,
mainly because of the updates to the Nvidia drivers as it turns out.
I'll see if I can use 1.6 again now since I restored my computer to a previous release of
those drivers.
Take care, Bob

Re: Newbie
Actually, CTRL-R never changed texture resolution. It splits the screen into 2 views. SHIFT + r increases texture resolution and r decreases it. But this is now disabled in svn. And probably will also be disabled in Celestia 1.6.

Re: Newbie
John will have to say for sure but it probably is normal. This is because the spacecraft mission that gathered the data for this texture is still in progress and all the data that was gathered to date may not have been released yet. Over time, there will be more data. When the Messenger spacecraft goes into orbit around Mercury, then there will probably be data for a full planetary texture. Right now, there have only been a few fly byes.Is it normal ?
