White textures

Post #1by FunkySonicO » 25.11.2008, 03:49

Hello everybody, I remember installing Celestia in a occasion and adding add-ons and textures without any problem. Now I installed it again after two years more or less and added some textures but all of the textures are white (example: nebulas and planets). I have a ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series and Celestia works fine but the only problem are these white textures. I follow the instructions to install the textures but don't know how to solve it.. Also some times works slowly, for example I downloaded a Jupiter texture in .png and then run slow when I tried to see it. If I change to .jpg I see a white planet. I installed the M16 Eagle Nebula and see the same thing.. I have the last video drivers..

I searched all the forum for the same "white problem" but some people say it's missing textures. How can it be if I follow all the installation instructions?

If any on talk Spanish it's going to be great because I'm from Argentina. Thanks for any help!

white = can't find

Error messages may be in Celestia's console log.

Type a <tilde> (~) or (shift `) to see the log
You may have to type <tilde> <space>

Ok, the tilde is not working for me, I have my keyboard configured in Spanish but also in English and tildes works ~~~ but dunno why can't see the log in celestia.

I downloaded another texture of the M16 Nebula and can see it partially, I mean, the corners was white.. Crazy. So I decided to uninstall celestia and install again. I installed the last M16 texture and works fine, I installed the M1 texture and also worked fine. But sometimes for example when I see the planet earth with clouds it's getting slow when I move around the earth. If I uncheck the clouds it's move soft without any freeze..

So what's my problem?

Did you re-install from a new download of Celestia's installer?
(maybe the old installer was damaged when it was downloaded)

or did you install from the same installer that you downloaded before?
(maybe there is a problem with disk or RAM)

slow = no hardware graphics acceleration or poor hardware graphics acceleration.
look in display properties to make sure hardware graphics acceleration is fully turned on.

I'm going to download celestia again, maybe the version that I have was with errors. It's crazy because without anything new texture I traveled to Fobos and Jano and see some glitches.. When I zoom in the moons get distorted. I attached some screenshots. Hardware graphics acceleration is at top. So I don't know what's going on, anyway I'm going to download another version of celestia or again the last one. Celestia 1.5.1 right?

Thanks for reply and for the help..
