Are the translations of SVN up to date?

Post #1by Guckytos » 29.10.2008, 19:16

Hi guys,

just took a plunge into SourceForge and looked a bit at the code and especially the translations.

The actual builds of 1.6.0 from SVN are done from the "trunk" branch, aren't they?

Now I took a look at that and saw that the dates for the last updates to "/trunk/celestia/locale" are 9 months old.

On the other hand, the last updates to "/branches/ver1_5_1/celestia/locale" are only 7 months old!

Same goes for some other directories.

Could someone who knows what he is doing please take a close look and do a merge (if necessary)?
Because there are a lot more translations in the "ver1_5_1" branch than in the "trunk".

Best regards,

Guckytos

Guckytos,

The internationalization process is quite complexe. Translation source files are in the 'trunk/celestia/po' folder.
During the development phase, the LANG.po files are updated with the new strings that need to be translated.
When this is done, the .mo files, along with the res_LANG.dll files -- which are Windows specific -- will be compiled
and placed into the locale folder.

Since we are still in the development phase of Celestia 1.6, we're currently working on updating the po files.

Good point. I wrote to Christophe (who has been in charge of coordinating translations before) one month ago, when you were preparing the new FAQ, to ask if we could start working towards the translations of the program and de docs for the upcoming 1.6. He didn't answer. My last communication with him was in January, on the ocassion of 1.5.1.

I anyone knows what needs to be done, please report here. I will be happy to update the Spanish files (preferably with enough time...)

Guillermo,

We're currently dealing with a issue about the translation of alternative names for
solar system bodies. When this is fixed, I'll send the revised .po files to all translators.

Okay,

thanks for the info Vincent. This probably means that I will also receive an updated .po for the german translation.

More work to do

Guckytos
