I got an email today from the Gateway to Astronaut Photography and noticed an image of the Amazon River system in Brazil.
http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/EarthObservator ... Brazil.htm
http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/scripts/sseop/p ... rame=13856

I tried to get the same in Celestia and this as close as I could get. About the only unknown here was the altitude of the where the image was taken.
EDIT: Actually I examined the text that is on the image page and noticed the altitude was 196 km. I was at about 184 and I couldn't get it to 196 with the mouse wheel. The next setting jumped to about 226.
I zoomed in to try and get most of the features from the real photograph in view. Then I zoomed out a little and then back to the default setting Celestia starts with.

How about estimating the size of these textures compared to your free hard disk space, before writing such a request !?

This is all experimental work, of course...

First of all, let me make it clear, the files you probably downloaded will make 64k textures. They will not make 128k, 256k, or 512k textures. That being said, I'm experimenting on the larger textures (128k, 256k, and 512k) to find out if they can be made, how will they affect my system, how they will look, etc. There will probably never come a day when I'll be able to upload a mega giga byte file to make it available. I don't have an adequate internet connection. I am planning on making all my methods, scripts, instructions, etc. available and I've already done so at CM. http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewtopic.php?t=260
http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewtopic.php?t=194

But if you are interested in creating 64k textures, there is a file at my web site called 64k-bmng-texture-kit.zip This has instructions and bat files to run on Windows and will create a 64k BMNG texture with a specular map in the alpha channel and a 64knormal map. All you need to do is download the files, install the necessary software and click on a few bat files.

Sorry john, but I was trying to impress on the person that there WAS a link
dedicated specifically to this problem. If you can't find an answer to the
question in that link, then it can't be found.
