"New" dwarf planet

Post #1by granthutchison » 14.07.2008, 13:17

2005 FY9 now has a name, Makemake, and dwarf planet status.
I've updated outersys.ssc on SVN accordingly.

The name (pronounce it makki-makki) comes from the creation myth of Rapa Nui (Easter Island): a reference to 2005 FY9's informal designation, "Easter Bunny".
So presumably we can expect something from the mythology of Christmas Island when 2003 EL61 ("Santa") gets an official name. :(

Grant,

in the SSC, you used the line Class "dwarf planet". There shouldn't be a space in the class name. Should be Class "dwarfplanet" instead.
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

Thanks for finding this. I've committed a correction to SVN.

Oops. :(
Thanks Cham; and thanks, Chris, for making the correction.
