registry problem

Post #1by alildevil » 02.07.2008, 03:20

When I just d/l the program this evening from the main website, I tried to install but ran into a snag.

I tried to install to the pc I get this error right at the end f the installation .
_________________________________________________________________________
Error creating registry key:
HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\.cel

RegCreateKeyEx failed; code 5.
Access is denied.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to proceed anyway, or Abort to cancel the installation.
_________________________________________________________________________
After trying retry a few times with the same error, I opted for ignore it seems fine but was wondering what the error was about? any thoughts

I am running XP Home

Would have probably provided access to the association of CEL files with the main celestia.exe program. Not to worry, I wouldn't think.
You should be okay, unless you wish to be able to double-click on a CEL file in Windows explorer, and have it start Celestia automatically.
Does the program work okay? If so, then I wouldn't worry about it too much, although you might try right-clicking on the start.cel script
file in the main celestia directory, and then see if you can associate it with Celestia via the "properties" tab. Just right-click on the cel file,
click on the "properties" tab, and then see if the file "Opens With" celestia. exe. If not, click on the "Change..." tab to set the association.

Hope that helps, Bob

Administrative privileges are needed in order to modify HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
You are probably trying to install Celestia while running as a non-privileged user.
Contact your system administrator about the possibility of installing Celestia from a privileged userid.
