Certainly - as long as proper credit is given - then there should be no problem.

Please note that I normally add one screen shot as I edit the specified add-on after Ulrich has made it available on the board. After an add-on has been posted, you may feel free to add any other screen shots that you desire, as long as they are limited in size to approximately 1024 x 512 (or thereabouts.)

Please note, however, that this particular add-on has been rejected because it does NOT contain all of the texture files used by the 3ds model. Please re-submit your add-on with the appropriate files included if you don't mind. Not everyone uses the same texture files, and even when they do, they can easily be named something else, so that doesn't help at all. Your 3ds file must either contain the textures within the 3ds file itself, or these files must be included in their respective locations within the add-on.

In other words, if your 3ds model is pulling a file called "Sheet1.jpg" from the Celestia\extras\ISS\textures\medres directory, then this information MUST be included with the add-on, as must the textures\medres folder (and all of its contents) itself.

Sorry, but this is the only way in which we can keep separate add-ons separate.
Please try again if you don't mind.

Thanks, Brain-Dead Bob

krisci3,

please also include an SSC file (named e.g. 'update_iss.ssc') with this contents:

Code: Select all

Modify "ISS" "Sol/Earth"
{
   Mesh "ISSjun08.3ds"
}

and put it into your add-on folder.

E.g.:
\extras\iss_jun08\update_iss.ssc
\extras\iss_jun08\models\ISSjun08.3ds

krisci3,

if you don't mind, I did it for you.
I did add Bob Hundley's textures and an ssc file with a correct
orientation of the ISS and made an easy to extract package.

You will find it HERE.

If you don't like what I've done, just drop a line here and I will remove it.

@Bob Hundley:
Do you agree to use your textures?

krisci3 and Ulrich?

I have downloaded and installed the new June ISS, and I am simply blown away with the very nice detail of this model. As far as I know, this is the most realistic of the ISS models that I have seen thus far, so I just wanted to thank you for the effort here. A very beautiful representation indeed.

One note for others here though. All I had to do was to replace my current 3ds model (and keep Mr. Hundley's textures) with the data contained in the new package, and everything looks spectacular. If I try to use the "modify" directive for the included SSC code, it simply screws up the orbit of my model. This is probably due to the fact that I have my orbit set up in a different manner though.

Again, much appreciated here. Beautiful model. :D

Bob,

I think that I do not understand what your problem is.
You don't have to touch any file after extracting the add-on
to your extras folder. Everything should work fine.
This works fine on my machine (Celestia basic installation) anyway.

Even if you have installed any other ISS add-on, the included
ssc file (update_iss_jun08.ssc) should overwrite the existing mesh
and orientation properties (as long as the ssc file of any other ISS
add-on do not begin with a letter after "u").
If any other ssc file for ISS should begin with e.g. "v", Celestia
will use the properties of the "v"-ssc file. In this case you can
rename 'update_iss_jun08.ssc' to e.g. 'zupdate_iss_jun08.ssc'.

I sent you my SSC file via e-mail, Ulrich, and - as you know - I usually do things
to accommodate my needs and not the norm, so this is probably just my fault.
I am very happy with the add-on though. I simply replaced my current 3ds file
with the new one, and it works perfectly.

Thanks again, and sorry if I'm causing unnecessary problems. Didn't mean to, honestly.
Just for further clarification though...

My SSC file resides in C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\Spacecraft\ISS
My model resides in C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\Spacecraft\ISS\models
My textures reside in C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\Spacecraft\ISS\textures\medres

Don't know if this setup is causing the problem, but them's the facts. I do NOT have
the ISS included in the spacecraft.ssc file which is normally included with Celestia.

Ah, that's your problem! :)
'update_iss_jun08.ssc' is a modifying ssc file.
It overwrites only the mesh and orientation properties for ISS in 'spacecraft.ssc' (or any other ssc file with properties for ISS).
Since you are using my 'iss.ssc' for 1.4.1 (with a given epoch = July 16, 2006 and without UniformRotation), the orbit is wrong
a few weeks later after epoch (see the readme.txt of this add-on) and ISS does somersaults over the time.

Note: Since 'update_iss_jun08.ssc' is a modifying ssc file it does not overwrite the EllipticalOrbit properties at the given epoch of 'iss.ssc'!
When 'spacecraft.ssc' of 1.5.1 is in use there is no need to modify the EllipticalOrbit properties with 'update_iss_jun08.ssc' since this
properties are given in 'spacecraft.ssc' of 1.5.1 already.

So you better do not use my old (and now useless) ISS ssc files for 1.4.1 with Celestia 1.5.0/1.5.1!
I recommend to use the relular default 'spacecraft.ssc' (with ISS properties!) and krisci3's add-on with my 'update_iss_jun08.ssc'.

Okay... Thanks a lot, Ulrich. I knew there was a reason, just didn't understand all of the intricacies.

By the way... Any possibility for obtaining a NEW SSC file for the aforementioned ISS? The only reason I was using the old ISS.ssc file was because I managed to get a very nice (and smooth) display of the station when I used your SSC file - which BTW is still posted on the ML. Maybe we should delete and/or update these?

Thanks for your help my friend, but like I said, I wasn't having any trouble with the orbit of the ISS. It's just that it hasn't been updated in about two years, so I didn't even think to look there for potential problems.

Thank you,krisci3.
Your model is PERFECT and now even the flags and logos are displayed in the ISS on Celestia 1.5.1.

Thanks all for helping me out. I won't take too much praise though, I didn't create the model. I just took the complete model and jettisoned the parts that aren't there yet!

This is a great update of the ISS model. If it's OK with all contributors, I'd like to include this in the upcoming Celestia 1.6.0 package.

krisci3... I've just noticed that the Canadarm2 is missing from the updated model.
Can you remove from previous model and update?
