Sorry, but Steve's add-on works exactly as specified on my system. Are you certain that you REPLACED the 4k valles.jpg and mons.jpg files with the
8k images with the same names?

This is what I did, and it works perfectly. Just FYI...
By the way, Steve, this is a spectacular way to explore portions of the surface of Mars. Thanks very much for the add-ons.

Cartrite, I'm using your Mars 3D 8k from a while, and with very good results with my students. :D
Now I tried to solve the many quality gaps visible in the mons.jpg image, due to the differnt luminosity/contrast/resolution of the images used to make the mosaic.
So this is the result in some areas particularly filled with such problems.
BTW, I changed the color too, in order to make it closer to mario's 16k Mars texture.
Sorry to divide the images in two posts, next is coming immediately after this one.
Hope you like it, if yes obviously I'll make it available somewhere, as you like.
Bye

Andrea :D

I've made several attempts at this myself but was never completely satisfied.

The color and contrast changes look good.

Yes I do like what I see. If your texture is the same size and coverage area as the one I provided it should line up with the model. Just needs the same name.
So this is of course up to you. I'm sure that many who downloaded that model would welcome the improvements. Maybe they will let you post it at CM.
Again, I was never completely satisfied with the alterations I did so I only made the raw textures available.

I often thought about downloading all the Viking images used for that MDIM 2.1 mosaic of Mars and reprocessing them with ISIS3 to see if that would clean up all the seams but never got around to it.
Long term, I'm also thinking about redoing Mars in a completely different way that would cover the whole planet at a variable resolution.
Short term, the PDS will be releasing CTX data in a few days so this may make the data available that I need to enhance the Vallesmarineris and Olympus Mons areas. Those experimental models I was doing a while back. Also if the continuous area of coverage is large enough, I may do a level 12 VT. That is something I wanted to do for a while now. My main problem is that I haven't got around to cleaning up my main SATA disk yet. 500 GB is almost all used up. 8O Not enough work space.

Yes, it has the same dimension, area coverage and name of your one.

Well, so I think that it’s better to wait for your further enhancements from CTX data, and then to clean-up the seams, if any. 8)
BTW, if you wish it, I have sufficient spare time to help you in cleaning.
For the texture shown in my post, if someone wishes it I can make it available, e.g through Rapidshare or some other way.
Bye

I'm sure that there are those who would welcome the new texture. However, I never used Mario's Mars texture and it is apparently no longer available. My main goal is to color my own personal texture of Mars from the MOC and Odyssey data and color the model textures to match it. But I still need to free up disk space. After I get an external drive so I can move all my data to it, I'll be catching up on all these projects I got on the back burner.
