I've made several attempts at this myself but was never completely satisfied.

BTW, I changed the color too, in order to make it closer to mario's 16k Mars texture.
The color and contrast changes look good.

Yes I do like what I see. If your texture is the same size and coverage area as the one I provided it should line up with the model. Just needs the same name.
So this is of course up to you. I'm sure that many who downloaded that model would welcome the improvements. Maybe they will let you post it at CM.
Again, I was never completely satisfied with the alterations I did so I only made the raw textures available.
I often thought about downloading all the Viking images used for that MDIM 2.1 mosaic of Mars and reprocessing them with ISIS3 to see if that would clean up all the seams but never got around to it.
Long term, I'm also thinking about redoing Mars in a completely different way that would cover the whole planet at a variable resolution.
Short term, the PDS will be releasing CTX data in a few days so this may make the data available that I need to enhance the Vallesmarineris and Olympus Mons areas. Those experimental models I was doing a while back. Also if the continuous area of coverage is large enough, I may do a level 12 VT. That is something I wanted to do for a while now. My main problem is that I haven't got around to cleaning up my main SATA disk yet. 500 GB is almost all used up.
Not enough work space.
