Linux version question

I recently downloaded Celestia to use on Ubuntu. I don't see a command menu bar at the top as there is in the Windows version. Is the Linux version only driven by keyboard commands?

Which frontend did you download? Synaptic lists three frontends (I'm still using Gutsy, don't know what the situation is in Hardy): KDE (celestia), GNOME (celestia-gnome), GLUT (celestia-glut).

Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) has gnome 2.22.1 by default.

Open "Synaptic Package Manager" from the System>Administration menu.
Use the search button to search for "celestia". The list of packages you get should include "celestia", "celestia-common", "celestia-glut" and "celestia-gnome".
The ones you want are "celestia-common" and "celestia-gnome". You've probably already got "celestia-common" (the square next to it should be green).
Click on the item "celestia-gnome" and select "Mark for Installation". Synaptic may want to install some other packages along with this, so you may get a window pop up when you do this. If this happens, click the "Mark" button so that Synaptic will install the required packages.
Click on the item "celestia-glut" and select "Mark for Removal".
Then click "Apply" (it's the button with a green tick symbol on it)

Or if you want to do it from the terminal:

sudo apt-get remove celestia-glut
sudo apt-get install celestia-gnome
