Texture problem

well currentlu im making an addon for the star trek section for the andorian system around Pi3 orionis (i know it should be in procyon but theres too little space to add so many planets and keep andor as the 8th planet)

but im having a problem with the cloud texture, shown bellow:

Image

At first the boundries of the textures meet up perfectly but as i let time pass an edge forms that eats up the cloud texture, it then re-apears after it has been completly "eaten", and then the cycle continues.

I've never seen that problem before.

What kind and size of image file are you using for the cloud texture?
It should be a PNG image which is a power of 2 on a side and it should be less than or equal to the maximum texture size supported by your graphics card. That maximum is reported in Celestia's menu Help/OpenGL Info

You can use a VT, but only if you set CloudSpeed to 0. Weird things will happen if you don't. Moving cloud VT textures is *not* supported, although it won't cause a fatal error.

In principle Celestia v1.5.0 supports non-power-of-two textures, but only on cards which support that feature in the hardware. Celestia v1.5.0 is supposed to shrink textures that aren't a power-of-two on a side so they are, but I dunno if anyone has verified that this shrinkage works for cloud textures.

Ive resolved the problem, ive taken out the clouds but created the effect with a bump map.

here it is so far (13 planets, 35 bodies, one space station):

(andor is the gas giant, andoria being the earthlike moon)

Any opinions? :D

As I understand from a Star Trek: Enterprise episode, the Andorian homeworld/homemoon is an arctic world, or at least more so than you have illustrated by the screen shot. As I understand it, it's like the entire world resembles Siberia.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Well this moon is supposed to illustrate the biomes from artic, tundra to taiga.

Im also using the star trek roleplaying source (amogst the clas/; the andorians) book as reference on andoria, its biomes and the rough shap of the continent according to the available map.

Also im using it s a reference for names and orbital structures.

How big was the cloud map that was giving you problems? Celestia cloud textures need to be small enough to fit into a single hardware texture: 8k on DX10 capable hardware such as GeForce 8 and Radeon X2xxx cards, 4k on GeForce FX/6/and 7 series cards, and 2k on non-DX10 Radeon cards.

Well most textures for this system are 2048x1024 and 4096x2048, and there are no smaller ones from 2048x1024.

seeing as this is related to the same system andi dont want to waste space by opening another thread i just want to ask a quick question.

Celestia seems to arrage the planets in the navigation list alphabetically, how can i make it list them by how close they are to its sun or parent body?

i cant seem to find how in selden's resources.

My copy of Celestia displays planets in the order that they're found in ssc files. Celestia reads separate ssc files in alphabetical order. If you put them in separate files and the files are named the same as the planets, they'll be alphabetical. If you put them in the same file, they'll be in whatever order you use.

Then they should be shown in the order that they appear in the SSC file.

Please provide a copy.

It looks fine on my system. I tested it with both Celestia v1.5.1 final and Celestia built from svn.
