Problem with bump mapping - again!

Post #1by Jango Fett » 15.01.2003, 10:38

I know this subject has been discussed earlier, however I have a serious problem with it.. i think.

I can't get the bump map effect on Earth.

This is my machine:

- Athlon XP 1400+
- GF2 Ti 64 MB DDR
- 256 Megs of RAM

I tried everything. I checked numerous times in solarsys.ssc. Does it have anything to do with the source code? When I open the texture in Photoshop (DDS plug-in), it says that it doesn't have an alpha channel. Every change I made in DDS texture (don't worry, I put it in a DXT-3 compression) had no effect, even though it looks good in 3D preview window. Mars and Moon bump textures work fine in Celestia.

I'm using 8k DDS texture, and the same for night texture. For clouds, I'm using 2k texture.
BTW, I didn't really understand the procedure of making bump effect on clouds.

Help!

The bumpmap must be jpg- or png-file (grayscale). If you want use the dds-format this is discussed here.

There is no bumpmaping for cloud-layer possible. You can only use a Photo-editor (Photoshop) and add some static bumpmaping but it's not easy to do.

I also tried with .jpg and .png formats, but there's still nothing... (texture is from t100fri's tex foundry)

I know, but I have read instructions for making cloud bump maps in photo editing programes with DDS plugin. I made all the steps and nothing worked...

Anyway, thanks!
