Topographical map of Titan

Another great blog post from Emily Lakdawalla:
http://www.planetary.org/blog/article/00001385/

I'd seen this topographical map of Titan's northern lake region a few days ago. Through interviews with one of the USGS people responsible for that map, Emily's gotten a lot of answers to some of the questions I had about the map.

The altitudes are estimated from parallax using radar swaths acquired from different angles. The main point is that the areas that look like lakes in the SAR swaths are in fact lower than the surrounding areas.

While this is interesting as a matter of principle, I was aware since long of the great amount of "flatness" on Titan's surface. Hence, in order to notice any topography from above Titan in Celestia, we'd really need a gigantic resolution that we will never get ;-)
