Issue with forum
I'm posting a new topic, as I have replied to "Wow! New Forums" twice now and neither of my posts are being displayed.
When we had the original forum, we were allowed to switch between Subsilver and Solaris. Could this functionality be restored? I happen to like the Solaris theme. Furthermore, the Solaris theme made a clear distinction between sticky posts and regular posts. I was confused for a while here, as I believed it was sorting the threads out of date. =S.

Hmm. I seem to have figured out what was wrong earlier... there's apparently a clear distinction between "save" and "submit".

I don't think my post showed either.

Save creates a draft message without submitting it.Hungry4info wrote:Hmm. I seem to have figured out what was wrong earlier... there's apparently a clear distinction between "save" and "submit".
You can then come back later and edit it, delete it, or submit it by going to the User Control Panel and clicking on Manage drafts.
eg. This message was prepared earlier.
This is quite a useful feature, but note that BBCodes and smilies are only available if you load the draft rather than view/edit it.
I too would like to see the return of the old themes, and maybe some new ones as well. I find this default one a bit plain and lacking in visual cues.
It was also handy to have a different colour for the logged in scheme than the default solaris (for those occasions when the login cookie was not handled properly). -- I knew immediately that the login had failed and that the cookie therefore had to be deleted.

Re: Issue with forum
Maybe to satisfy Mr Grumpy, we can have Solaris for non-logged-in/non-registered guests (as before).

Re: Issue with forum
Solaris has never been a good idea, it is too similar to many forum out there about games and the result is that many young people register here thinking they will meet a community of gamers when it's not the case at all. IMHO Solaris do not represent at all the spirit of Celestia (and almost none of the active members (dev) use it... In the absolute, this board would need a personal design (like Runar's one @ CM) but it's quite some work to do a template so perhaps later?

Re: Issue with forum
And another thing...
What's up with all this "Friend" vs "Foe" crap?
If I wish to send a PM, I have to first select a user, then I
have to designate him/her as a "friend" in order to send
him/her a PM. Is this a good thing?
Methinks I should simply become a foe of the forum.
Sorry, just kidding Selden.

Bob,
A quick look at the PM settings didn't reveal anything related to Friend/Foe settings. It'll take more research that I can't do until late this afternoon EDT.

Re: Issue with forum
Bob,
My tests show that you don't need to set the Friend field to send a PM. Just type the userid into the To box and click on the "Add" button that's right next to it (if you're using the new prosilver skin) or the "Add(to)" button at the bottom right corner of the box (if you're using SubSilver2 or "Serenity DarkBlue")
That just adds the specified userid to the To address list of the message. It doesn't affect anything else.

Got it figured out now, Selden.
I did as advised and switched to the sub-silver format so that I can now SEE what you were referring to. With the format I was using, the user name field looked as if it was protected, and I didn't see that I could type a name into the field.
I'll simply play around with this for a while. I STILL like the Solaris format though...
This is no longer able to be used? Call me crazy, but I LIKED the dark star-filled background with Mars at the top of the page. This image represents Celestia does it not?

Re: Issue with forum
Well since the change over, I can't auto-logon any longer. No matter what I do I have to log in every time I want to come in. Also I don't care for the look and or feel of the default skin. Its confusing, and looks like the forum did five years ago. SO as far as I am concerned its a big step backward. I know the main reason for the update was security, but this is almost to the point that I don't even want to come in here anymore. At least under the SOLARIS skin things were streamlined and it was easy to navigate, although the coloring was a bit hard on the eyes. Maybe something like SOLARIS in blue and white.

Have you tried changing the theme to subSilver2? Details on how to do this are here.Don. Edwards wrote:Maybe something like SOLARIS in blue and white.

This usually is a symptom of the browser having botched the cookies. It's usually fixed by logging out, telling the browser to delete all of the cookies associated with the site, and then logging in.Don. Re: Issue with forum
while I am certainly more the conservative type as concerns new forum skins, in my view, the 'subsilver2' one is close to perfect as to ergonomics!
There may be issues of taste that are subjective. But all the more objective aspects are really well done with subsilver2

I'm also using the "subsilver2" skin, which is close to perfection.
Is it me, or is the board really slow today ?

Re: Issue with forum
Subsilver2 is very close to the old forum skin we had before SOLARIS, so I can live with it. I happens to be th default skin in so many forums around the net that it is more like a defacto standard. So I will be staying with it for now.

Re: Issue with forum
Whatever theme is used I find the new board a bit less responsive than previously... it's only an idea of mine?
Re: Issue with forum
Is it only me or others also experiencing the following?
On the old board, when I came in with auto-login I saw all the new posts since my last visit. When I went away and came back later I only saw the new posts since my last visit.
Now in the phpBB 3 (using subsilver) when I auto-login I see all posts as new that I haven't visited. Even when I was already gone in the mean time they are still shown as new, even after some days/visits.
That behaviour is annoying me. Does anyone have the same trouble or knows a way of getting rid of that behaviour?
Regards,
Guckytos
