Hi
The system I'm having a problem with Celestia 1.5.0 on is the following:
Asus F3Jr AP0 84C laptop with upgraded Core 2 Duo T7600 CPU
2 gig of RAM, graphics is ATI Mobile Radeon X2300 - the system was freshly rebuilt last week with a Hitachi Travelstar 200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive. O/S is Windows XP SP2 32-bit. It is performing very well with Photoshop and playing DVDs, surfing the net etc.
I rebuilt the system this weekend due to fitting a new HD and installed the latest Catalyst Control Centre & Driver, V8.2 using the 'Mobility Modder' tool from the Driver Heaven site.
I'd noticed a couple of Glitches in Celestia V. 1.4.1 when playing the demo - some strange diagonal lines in the moon and the entire screen breaking up at the section of the demo tour when it reaches Mimas. Saturn also
'stalls' dreadfully.
I was pleased to see there was a new version of Celestia available for download so put it in the laptop, opened the application and there are no stars whatsoever, anywhere. Their labels are there when selected, but no stars. I thought it might be a problem with my graphics driver and so uninstalled Catalyst Control Centre and installed the latest available version of the 'Omega Radeon' driver instead. Same result, no stars at all anywhere. I've tried switching between 'application controlled' and 'custom settings' in both of the drivers 3D menus just to see if it made any difference, but it had no effect at all.
I hope the bug will be fixed as the new version ran beautifully and looks significantly nicer on my desktop machine, (AMD Opteron 185, BFG NVidia 8800 GTS 320 OC, XP SP2)
PS just tried running V 1.5.0. with Catalyst Control Centre V 8.1
but still no stars
NO STARS in V 1.5.0
Just as a follow-up to this it would appear my problem was driver-related.
I've just rebuilt my laptop again and first I used the latest Omega Radeon driver. This allowed me to display stars as pinpoints but no other way.
Both ATI CCC Ver. 8.1 and 8.2 that had been converted for use with the laptop using the 'Mobility Modder' tool would not display any stars at all and produced some pretty awful glitching on the Moon and Mimas.
So after rebuilding the laptop ths time I tried using the Driver supplied by Asus and I have no glitches at all in ver. 1.5.0. I haven't bothered to try the earlier version as I don't see the point - congrats on ver 1.5.0 - each iteration of this application just gets better!
