Planet Textures
Planet Textures
Hi
I have got Lunarcell which is a great program for creating planet textures and their cloud maps and bump maps but i was wondering...
I have seen other people's textures and it looks like they have been whipped up like heaven. In others words they are far far better than my textures. It has been bugging me now for a long while to find out how these textures can be done, some I understand are homemade but there must be another program just like lunarcell that does these wonders of art.
It would be alot of help if anyone can give me links to these other programs and I would like to know one more thing... what is blue-marble ?
Thanks for helping out

Yep, that would be great, but unfortunately, only a huge amount of hours working hard on Photoshop or Gimp can deliver you one of these "wonders of art"...

No, there is no program that can substitute a brain and tons of hours of manual work, at least not in this field.
However, there are programs that can help you if you want to do real maps. Like here: http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewtopic.php?t=194

Several sites have tutorials on creating planetary surface texture images.
Two such sites that I'm aware of are
http://www.solarvoyager.com/
and

Thanks for mentioning this plug-in. It's turning out to be much much better than fractal world explorer for making planet textures.

It's a fractal generator, but it's fairly easy to adjust it so that it draws in two colors, that way you can select the continents in photoshop/paintshop and paint over them.

If this is the same one Tuefish is talking about it is here : Planet texture generator

I did this in about ten minutes with the magic wand and flood fill tools, and a satellite photo. It's pretty rough, but I hope you get the idea. I used two stock patterns and one custom pattern (from the satellite image) after selecting the respective land/mountainous regions on 71% in magic wand. Then just filled in the areas.
Edit: PS. I used photoshop elements 5.0

I have the original source code for the 1.0 version if anyone wants it. I will tell you that the released code is very inefficient and suck up a lot of memory. As in even with 2GB RAM you cant render an image later then 1K

Just curious: How do you make the texture seamless? The demo version doesn't permit it, even with the angles perpendicular to the layer's plane. Perhaps the full version does?
Never at rest.
