Frames of reference and coordinate systems

Last month I posted this query to Celestia Users but got no replies. Maybe I will have more luck here.

I am a new Celestia user, and I would like to understand how frames of reference work with scripting commands, particularly `setframe', `goto', `gotoloc', `setorientation' and their parameters. How are coordinate systems oriented with respect to celestial references such as planet equators, axes of rotation, orbital planes, the ecliptic, etc.?

I have checked the manual, the scripting reference, the web sites and documentation linked from the Celestia site, sample scripts, and a number of source files. A search in the archive of this forum turned out a couple of similar queries about frames and scripting, but without replies. I currently have limited access to celestia for experimentation, because I have installed it on a PC at work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks anyway,

Hi Paolo,

Thank you for posting the reference link. I too had the same questions (smile).
