New version of Orbiter is out.

Post #1by buggs_moran » 05.05.2006, 15:33

I use Celestia in class as a teaching tool far more than Orbiter. However, Orbiter does have it's merits. A new version was released today. It can be lots of fun, and has a tough learning curve (especially if you want to land on another planet). For those that don't know about Orbiter, it is a flight/spaceflight simulator. You aren't confined to the Solar System, but it is generally geared to flight in it.

I believe so. I have spent 99.9% of my time with Celestia. People make their own ships all the time. I think there is an Alpha Centauri addon at avsim.com. I use it primarily for jaunts up to the space station and to fly Rutan's Spaceship One

Absolutely, you can dwl the Software Developpement Kit for developpers. You have also numberous HiRes Textures packs (there are VT, IIRC) of some planets and moons. And you can search on http://www.orbithangar.com/ (or the old http://library.avsim.net/login.php?Location=%2Findex.php) some others (there were some textures for asteroids an moon adaptated from the old ones by Jestr for Celestia)or complete fictitious systems. I remenber an Alpha Cent sys, large Outer planets pack, an so on... Jeam
