I'm trying to install new drivers, but I keep getting this error message:
And I'm getting quite agitated, and I'm ready to throw the laptop across the room.

Unfortunately, most laptops use proprietary chipsets to control the graphics chips. You have to get updated drivers from the system manufacturer, not from Nvidia.
Sorry.

You may want to go to the NvNews forums in the Windows drivers section and do a search.
There is a laptop guru there who routinely tweaks all releases of Nvidia drivers so that they work on all flavors of laptops with proprietary/customised/modified/whatever mobile Nvidia chips.

Unfortunately, the only suggestion I can make concerns a more effective destruction of your notebook

Good luck,
