Just incase you all were wondering.
I just went through the worst bug case I have been through. It started out simple, web page searches were being redirected. I sought help at bleepingcomputers.com. Don't get me wrong, these guys are extremly knowlogeable. The problem came about when the guru that was helping me had me run this tool with an added script. Well that put the nail in the coffin. It read something the wrong way and I lost my desktop, taskbar, everything.
Needless to say I have been rebuilding everything from the ground up.
If any of you have dabbled in Home Automation, you will know what's taking me so long. Rebuilding databases, events, devices for running my whole house.
I should soon have my Celestia re-install and all the 3D stuff done soon.

Sorry to hear that.

It sounds like your computer got infected with one of the nastier viruses. There are quite a few viruses which have those symptoms. They're very hard to recover from, since a fix for one won't fix another, and they're very good at hiding from Windows. Once it's happened, a wipe and rebuild is the only really safe thing to do.

Unfortunately, the anti-virus software products are having problems keeping up. They're becoming less and less effective, but do help.

For what it's worth, I use Comodo Internet Security (it's free antivirus+firewall; you pay if you want personal support) plus the Firefox plugins NoScript and WebOfTrust. Many viruses are acquired by viewing compromised Web pages.

I've found that noscript addon is probably the most useful thing you can get for firefox.

Selden and Reiko, I never used Noscript before now (I was unaware of its existence), but now that I tested it, I agree with you, it's highly efficient.
