Galactic Civilization III

As we all know, galvic 2 is the best contemporary space strategy game. It has its flaws and I for one haven't yet felt important to spend my money to it. Since the cult classic Master of Orion II I've been dreaming of a space strategy game which would have real universe for the illusion of reality. Amiga's old Millennium had the real Sol system with its moons and atmospheres and the Accolade's Star Control 2 had 3-d rotating star lanes. Now that I've found Celestia today, I'd say it was the perfect recepy for this game. Galciv 2 is totally pathetic with its 2d "bunch of stars" galaxy types. They should definately copy Celestia's 3d-model of the Milky Way even with its 100000 starting stars to the galciv 3.

You and your friends are quite welcome to create your own Addon for Celestia which would implement the game.

Lua would be the language of choice if you want it to be an Addon that any Celestia user would be able to play. Since it would be written separately from Celestia, you could distribute it under any license you deem appropriate.

If you are fluent in C++, you also could modify Celestia to implement it, but in that case the Gnu Public License would apply.

I have never even heard of a GalCiv 3. I have the second one and love it.
When did the third one come out? I can't find any information on it.

Teemu,

Perhaps you might rather enjoy Orbiter? There is plenty to read about it, start with Wiki. The multiplayer version is in beta.
